Cleaning up Samber Grips

I picked up a set of Samber Stags that someone tried to age. They did a poor job and I need to know how to clean them up. The staining finish appears to be almost like tea but is haevy on the edges and is slightly shiney. I am currently soaking them in cool soapy water.
