CLP

As an aside , I know a lot of people like Micro-fiber towels and they definitely have their uses . For the ultimate in softness and absorbency get yourself some old school 100% cotton baby diapers . I keep one in my range bag to wipe down my guns before putting them away . Mine have hemmed edges so there is no shedding of threads . And do not use fabric softener if you launder them , it tends to leave a film on some surfaces .

I used diapers about 45 years ago, after my daughter was house broke. Once those wore out, I use cotton tee shirts for cleaning. Also like old flannel rags.

Most of my T-shirts are 50/50 or something like that . They end up out in the garage for shop rags . Nothing goes to waste ...

The old cloth diapers were great for guns and windows, but my supply dried up years ago. T shirts are great, but I've also bought 100% cotton cloth from Walmart to use for cleaning patches and gun wipes.

Get a needle oiler and a microfiber cloth. All lube and protection needs met for a decade on 50 revolvers
There are oil applicators of different sizes made for the purpose of oiling watch and clock movements. They work as well for guns. Watch and clock oil also is good for gun lubrication. It does not get sticky or gummy.

"...not all that good at any particular use???"

Seriously? . . .

Yes, seriously. It is well known that combination products never excel in all claimed uses and CLPs is no exception. As a matter of fact there are many manufacturers of CLP named products and bet they are all not the same. People often do not ever change their gun care products if they work OK. I have changed almost all gun products used to clean, lubricate, and protect over the years. I have not tried all, but only those who do can make claims like are being made in this thread.

There are three things that are required to preserve, protect and provide wear protection. My current choices are as below. The information is easily found online with posters who specialize in gun maintenance products.

In my mind, I try to use the best bore cleaner out there and in this case it has been Hoppes No.9 forever.

Hoppe’s No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner, when a product has been a staple in its industry for over a century, it’s safe to say it’s doing something right. That’s certainly the case with Hoppe’s No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner, a true icon in the world of firearm maintenance. Since 1903, this classic solvent has earned the trust of generations of hunters, competitive shooters, and gun enthusiasts, thanks to its effectiveness, ease of use, and unmistakable scent.

For over a century, Hoppe’s has been synonymous with quality and reliability in gun care. The No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner exemplifies this legacy, providing a time-tested solution for keeping your firearms clean, protected, and functioning flawlessly. Whether you’re a seasoned shooter or a new gun owner, Hoppe’s No. 9 is a must-have in your cleaning kit.

As for using lard to coat guns, I would not recommend it, but RIG is without a doubt an outstanding leader in the gun preservative field. If one uses the wool applicator pad, there is no thickness to worry about as the applicator will put a very thin layer on the guns. Best product I have ever used on metal surfaces and if properly applied does not need wiping down before shooting.

Birchwood Casey Rig Universal Gun Grease is a top-tier choice for firearm enthusiasts seeking a long-lasting superior lubricant and preservative. This 12-ounce jar is formulated to provide reliable protection against rust and corrosion, ensuring your firearms remain in optimal condition even in challenging environments.

When it comes to maintaining your firearms, the Birchwood Casey Rig Universal Gun Grease stands out due to its remarkable ability to provide reliable protection against the elements. The unique formulation ensures that your firearms are not only lubricated but also shielded from the damaging effects of moisture and oxidation. The multi-colored appearance adds an aesthetic touch, but it’s the performance that truly matters.

This gun grease is particularly favored by enthusiasts who appreciate a high-quality product that can endure rigorous conditions. Its dimensions make it compact enough to store easily, yet the 12-ounce jar ensures you have plenty of grease on hand for multiple applications. Whether you’re preparing for a day at the range or ensuring your collection is well-maintained during storage, this grease provides the peace of mind that comes with knowing your firearms are protected.

Lastly, there are so many lubricants out there it may be tough to pick just one, but my latest is offered as the best of the best for lubricating moving parts. I have found Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Oil to be excellent and comes in a needle applicator making it easy to apply oil with pinpoint accuracy.

Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Oil is designed for high-performance firearms and precision lubrication. This 1oz Needle Oiler ensures that you can apply the oil precisely where it’s needed, reducing wear and tear on your firearms. It is manufactured by Lucas, a well-known brand in the industry.

Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Oil stands out due to its ability to deliver high-performance lubrication with precision. The needle oiler design allows for targeted application, ensuring that the oil reaches the most critical parts of your firearm. This is particularly useful for maintaining the smooth operation of the gun’s moving parts.

For those looking for a reliable and effective gun oil from a trusted brand, the Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Oil is a solid choice.

Bottom line is that you do not have to have a cabinet full of a bunch of different cans of stuff, but to have these three are essential in my mind for maximum gun protection.
