Is there a CMA awards of some type every week or is it every month?

I dislike award shows, but at least CMA has some entertainment.

Lots of the female singers are worth watching:D

How many male singers do not wear a hat?

My wife likes today's country music, and not too much else in the way of C&W. She came home the other day, and with a look of disgust she asked, "What IS this?"

It was Hank Snow's "Golden Rocket". I told her that's what real country sounds like!

I'll admit the CMA show is usually entertaining, though.

I hate to be the bearer of bad new but the is no long any such thing as COUNTRY MUSIC. I know, I know, it gets redefined every generation but some of the stuff that passes for country music today is anything but.

We still have George straight and Alan Jackson and Reba and Patty loveless but there is not enough of that on any radio or tv program or awards show to make it wort sitting through all the wanna bes.

During the CMAs I usually pull out my George Jones 50th Anniversary CD and watch some SHO' NUFF country music. ;)

Just got home. It's a little after 1 a.m. It was a BLAST! This was my 11th one and hope for more! Saw way too many beautiful ladies and the music was great! WOW! Of course my wife had a fit over Luke Bryan. I like Jason Aldean. But Justan Timberlake brought down the house.

Glad you enjoyed the show, I'm sure it was a blast watching it live.

I'm a country music fan I tried to watch it on TV but I was unimpressed and couldn't get through it.

I was born here in Nashville in 1955. And raised on country music. I have been to the Grand Ole Opry many times in the Old Ryman with my parents in the early 60's. And remember the old alley behind what is now Tootsies and seeing some of the great legions smoking and yes even drinking between performances at the Ryan. My whole family loved country music. It was nothing to see Country Stars all over Nashville. My uncle Frog owned a famous after hours club in the 70's/80's on second avenue. And when the clubs in Printers Alley closed at 2/3 a.m. they all headed to the Varsity Club. It was wide open at 5 in the morning. I saw two body guards carry Waylon in and out many times. I meet Don Shultz who wrote the Gambler that Kenny made famous. Tons of entertainers and song writers always came to the club. Went to George Jone's Club in Printers Ally the "Possum Hollor" and watched him to drunk to focus, but still could bring tears to your eyes. "He Stopped Loving Her Today" is still one of my favorites! About 12-15 years ago me and My wife were eating out and looked over and Eddy Arnold and his wife were at the table next to us. My Wife is Good Freinds with Stone Wall Jackson and his wife. And I Used to see Lil Jimmy Dickens at the gas station weekly. Used to watch Marty Robbins race at our local track. My mother loved Don Williams.

So I know what traditional country is. And can't stand the likes of Taylor Swift and her type. Nothing Counrty about her. But still lLove the new stuff, like Luke Byran, Chris Stapleton, Jason Aldean ECT.

It has changed. But glad they are still carrying on the tradition!! But the songs are still the same! Wiskey, Pickup Trucks and my dog and wife left me. But with a new flair!

And I remember when no one could stand Hank Jr's music in the 70's. Called him a spoiled momma's boy! And now he's considered a legitimate country star? Go figure?

I even like some So Called Country Rap! Big Smo comes to mind. A local boy that does his own thing! I'm almost 60 years old. And still like all music. Gospel, Country, Rock. Good music is good music.

I'll leave the subject alone, but to me, Country Is Country! Whether it be from Texas, Tennessee or even LA or New York, Country Knows Country!

Heck, I might'a just wrote a song! Country Is Country and Country Knows Country! Nah, won't work! No truck, Wiskey and my wife ain't left me!

Loved your first Paragraph. I can only dream of having that close proximity to all those wonderful people and that music.

Guess I'm a little older than you but I'm a little more of a purist when it comes to my own personal opinion of what is country and what isn't. I went on and gave you a like anyway (Partly 'cause of your view of Taylor Swift). You ain't that far off track. :p :D

I'm not a big fan of country music but the boss-lady loves it. But I will have to say that those are some of the sexiest ladies in the entertainment industry. Those old country boys have great taste!

It's changed. But when the ole ones die, who's going to fill their shoes? Get it?

Like I stated? My Dad loved Conway Twitty, Momma Loved Don Williams! I had country music stuck down my throat all my life. And started listening to the Temptations and Aritha in the early 60's and moved on to rock. By the late 60's. My older sister would buy her a country 45 and buy me a James Brown 45. Never liked Elvis! To candy pop for me?

In the early 70's there was a club here named Muthers Music Emporium ,a tiny club on Hermitage Ave and we went there one night a new group was playing, called Lynard Skynard? They were playing all week. I'd Never heard of them! I left after about a hour into their set! Too country for me!! Wasn't into country rock at the time! Them and Charlie Daniels and such wasn't my thing! But saw them many times afterwards! They played the fairgrounds and the Municipal later on. Like I said country, was everywhere here. I'd go to see my grandmother and on Friday or Saturday night, WSM would be blasting the Grand Ole Opry! With the likes of Earnest Tubbs, and Merle Kilgore, Marty Robbins, Conway ETC.

One night in the early 70's me and my sister went to see the Allman Bro's in concert at the Municipal downtown and Gregg was so messed up, it S**KED. No one was in key and no one was in tune. And that's when Dewayne was still living! I loved him on guitar!!! But he S**KED as well? I guess it was during their Herion Days? We Left half way through and went to the Exit Inn, to un-wind. We got a good seat, I guess everyone was at the concert? I forget who was playing, that night at the Exit Inn? And after a while in between sets, over the p.a. Came a voice and said we would like you to give a warm welcome to a special guest tonight! Y'all please welcome Gregg Allman? What the heck? I had just walked out of his concert! Two hours prior! He was totaled by this time, I mean wrecked, could barely stand, but sang MidNight Rider, just him playing the baby grand piano! Just him and his drink on piano! And he brought the house down. Sang the one song the long version, about a 10 minute version and left! It was killer! And I was only 5 feet from him! I'll never forget it!!

So music has played a big part of my life! And I've never touched a instrument!

I like country and Garth Brooks was probably the one who turned it from a small group of American followers to international widespread popularity. I still like most of the old songs better but its a shame so many of the entertainers were goofed up on booze and drugs and I saw Hank JR and he was drunk and he never finished one song. He would stop in the middle and just start talking and bragging about how he knew Elvis and Marylin Monroe and the crowd would be screaming "sing something!".

You make a pretty good case for living in Nashville!

I arrived the day after the CMA's, (timing is everything!) and managed to get a really nice hotel on the edge of town. After the free happy hour(!) the bride and I took the shuttle to Broadway. Several excellent bars, good energy, good music everywhere.

The next day we tried for tickets online for the Grand Old Opry, but it was sold out. We stopped at the box office anyway, and were told to try back at 2pm for a group of tickets that were being released. We went online half way through our tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame, and scored a pair of tickets on the floor 6 rows back. Amazing show - done in the same format as they used in the beginning. Old Crow Medicine Show brought the house down!

A special thanks to SW MP15 for his PM response for the insider scoop on what to see. You meet some of the nicest people around here! :)
