CMP 1911

I got mine a couple of weeks ago. I guess they ran out of those pretty fresh from the arsenal rebuilds. Mine has seen some use. Its got character. :D
BTW: No arsenal rebuild marks.

Jealous, this is more what I'd hoped for. What grade was that?

Well, if the stars line up and I get a call and actually answer and my credit card works and my transmission doesn't fall out before then and all 3 grades are available then my plan is to go for the field grade.

I want one that looks like Grayfox's. Even though his is a service grade, most service grades I've seen have that reparked-and-put-away look. I figure a field grade won't be a recent repark but will be better than a ratty rack grade.

If I had any nutz at all I'd go for a rack grade, but I'm hedging my bet and shooting for the middle ground.

Honestly, I've gotten more enjoyment out of the delayed gratification of this crazy CMP system than just walking in a store and buying one. If they do a second round of applications I'll be in that one, too.

Yee haw! Got the call this morning - number 10809 finally made it to the top!

I had a choice of field or rack grade and went with the field grade. With any luck I’ll have it in my grubby mitts tomorrow!

My CMP 1911, a service grade, is the worst case example. Mismatch, bead blasted, arsenal refinished in the 70s. A guy on a smaller forum I go to got a field grade and it's a beaut. Not sure where everybody is living with super cheap USGI 1911s, but this is still well under private sale pricing. If I just wanted a shooter, I'd absolutely snag the first $300 used Rock Island I ran into, and it would be reliable and shoot about the same, I just couldn't turn down a legit USGI 1911.

I’ll take it :D

Wow, that is a nice one!

A guy on another board supposedly did a Freedom of Information Act request to the Army on his serial number and found the Army had transferred it to CMP in Sept 2019, which would mean they are working their way through the second batch.

Fingers crossed.

According to the CMP website they haven't received any more pistols other than the original allotment of 8000. There is nothing about a 2nd shipment on the CMP forum either. Because the numbers are in the 10K range only means that many opted out of the purchase when contacted which could be expected. The cost to apply was less than $10. That's different than putting 1K on your CC a year after you sent in paperwork. As many have stated, they didn't want to wait.

I bought an HK45 with the money but now I'm having second thoughts about this. I think they're close to the bottom of the pile but my # is still too high so I'm going back to sleep. ;)

Check out the CMP forum, especially the closed threads. There are posts from CMP officials that tell a different story, even if they are being cagey about it. They definitely got at least one more gun if the FOIA story is true.

No matter, the sooner they get through 19,000 packages, the sooner I can get back in line.

Roger that. I didn't spend a lot of time looking at the forum, just going by their website. They may be hiding the fact of 2nd shipment to reduce the craziness they had to deal with last year when first announced. Maybe it's a closely guarded secret. ;)

I did note that 10745 wasn't offered a service grade. All gone.

They could be setting on shipment #2 until they sell everyone of those in #1, which could be any day.

Were you offered service grade also?

Nope, just two lower grades. I was planning on a field grade anyway, so it worked out.

I’ve read they bust open a crate at a time and that’s what the sell until they’re gone. I know several times they only offered service grades, then a little later other grades were available as well. Its a mysterious process.

What the heck is "Rack Grade"? I'd want NRA Excellent grade! I guess you have to grab those where and if you find one.

Just read a post by the mod over on the CMP forum. More or less says the number of available pistols is now classified on a need-to-know basis and you don't need to know how many they have.

If I had to place a small wager I would bet they have more, lots more. ;)
