CMP is selling Tisas 1911s

Then find one at a dealer near you and fondle it. It CMP is cheaper then order from them. If the dealer is cheaper then buy from them. Easy enough.

I do believe that all commercial (read new gun) sales from CMP must be shipped to a FFL. The surplus sales are all that can be shipped directly to the individual.

So, just a slight correction. The CMP ships the surplus USGI 1911's only to an FFL too, they are NOT shipped directly to individuals.

When I got my CMP 1911A1 I also bought a pistol belt, holster, Magazine pouch and first aid kit to replicate what I might have used way back then.

When I got the pistol belt it was about half as long as it needed to be. I thought I might have bought a kid's toy rather than the real thing. I measured the belt and it would have fit me perfectly back in 1958 or so.
:-(

I still have my web gear from when I was on active duty before I retired. Waist is bigger now. Belt still will go around my waist, but I am glad to have my suspender straps!

Puller, thanks for the clarification. I did not feel the need for a CMP M1911A1. So had not ordered one. Have had enough over the years.

But, are they any good? I ask because 40 years ago I bought what I thought a "GOOD" deal, a Auto Ordinance 1911. A money pit which never fed non ejected properly. Was very difficult to reliably strike the ground, even, with every shot.

I have a couple. They work well.

Worked on an Auto Ord back in the 1980's when stationed a Marine Barracks NWS Seal Beach. If failed during a competition that was held there. Thought it was junk then. Almost as back as a Federal Ord.

The thing no one is talking about..

Why is the CMP selling FOREIGN made guns instead of AMERICAN made guns.

Just a guess, but I'm thinking it was because Tisas was willing to make an exact copy of the 1911A1 at a reasonable price.
Most companies that offer a "G.I." 1911 don't make a true copy. They will have little differences such as lowered ejection ports, better sights and such. Close, but not quite exact.

Exactly! The newest Tisas GI model (pictured above) has all the correct details. Small ejection port, tiny sights, lanyard ring, serrated short trigger, correctly shaped GI safety, the list goes on.

Someone like Colt COULD make an EXACT replica but they won't for whatever reason. Clearly, there's a big market for GI clones.
Tisas sell a boatload every day and despite the low cost they're superbly made and function wonderfully.
