Coated bullets

A lot of casters shoot bullets as cast if they're the right diameter, but you usually don't see it in commercial bullets.
Even if they are a little oval, your barrel will straighten them out.
Definitely not real impressive looking.

One reason I am very glad that I only bought 150 bullets
from the company to test out.

50 each at .356, 357 and 358 dia.

Come on guys............
you really think that I would put out stuff like that if I poured !!
Why shame on you. :D :p

Ed,
I hope those bullets look better than they shoot. Not picking on anything but you might want to ask yourself, would I use those bullets if I cast them and they look that that with the seams showing???

Roll them on a flat surface and see if they're round or egg shaped.

Those bullets never were sized before or after they were cast and pc'd.

You could always buy a Lee push thru sizer & run them all thru to be uniform???

Sure you could. My concern would be if the quality of that bullet is that bad.

What other corners did they cut???? Junk in-junk out

So these bullets are ok.....?
Just thought they would be a little cleaner.

Will try the others mentioned to see if they might improve.
Thanks.

Never mind--I thought I was looking at a preparation H commercial. :) I am new to the coated myself. I thought I was happy with the old stuff. I am old & it takes me a while to catch on.

I picked up a bag of regular lubed 158 swc's from a local caster. The finish was sloppy, the crimp groove and top shoulder were all over the place. SD and es sucked for the first batch. So I didnt do anymore load development and just loaded all of them up and labeled the box "SHOOT FOR FUN". I wasn't going to waste any more time on them and would not reorder them.

You do quite a bit of "trials" with your bullets and powder. These bullets seem like they'll lose in the first round of your tournament.

So, just let them have the fun and experience of going down your barrel and making big fireballs....maybe w296.:D

The good thing, is that I will at least learn what the fps will be with five powders and different OAL lengths.

We all have to start some where with new stuff.
I will just be testing the waters, so to speak...........
and after my first baby steps, I will be able to get a better idea on what is happening with the bullets and the powders.

"Ugly" will do just fine.
Thanks for all the input.

My experience is limited to Bayou Bullets coated which I have used only in my 627 revolvers at subsonic speeds. I use Bayou primarily because I know Donnie Miculek is fully aware of the needs of competitive revolver shooters. If you request a diameter he doesn't routinely stock, he will run a batch to meet your needs. He usually ships same or next day USPS Priority Mail. Bullets are well-packed not damaged enroute and are great to handle and load. Accuracy is more than adequate for speed games. Fellow squad members like to complain about the smell of invisible smoke but Iowa wind clears that out.

I will be loading supersonic 9 mm Bayou bullets this year.

Unfortunately these were..

sounds more like someone trying to sell something as something else.
Honestly, one of the greatest strengths of the coatings is that they are user friendly.
you can do this yourself in your shop.

Unfortunately these were from a well respected and thought of casting outfit. So yeah, I'm disappointed and I won't be getting more these. Might be an interesting thought to just buy the lead bullets and 'coat my own'.

I was basically committed to plated bullets and I still have a boatload in inventory. In January I purchased another revo (929 JM PC) and asked a few shooters in the area what load to use. I ended up buying 500 pcs of Bayou 9mm RN to try out. I'm really happy with this bullet, it is my first real attempt to give coated bullets a fair shake.

Last week I ordered a package of 3300 of these and they arrived in 2 business days! I loaded up another 300 and will know better tomorrow if I made the right move but if anything needs to be changed it will probably be either the powder/charge or the seating depth.
