A while back I bought a 15-4, 2" in nickle with some flaking on the cylinder. The gun was as-new and sure shoots like a new one. The cylinder has me a bit concerned. If you look at it wrong, it will start to rust where the nickle is missing. I got it cheap and use it as pack gun.

I don't want the expense to send it off to be re-nickled. I checked once and it was going to be around $150 out and back.

Is there a coating that could be applied to the cylinder such as a home-brew parkerized type finish that will stick to the nickle and steel surfaces of the cylinder?

Something like one of the "paint" type gun coatings.
These are usually epoxy coatings that harden up very hard and are fairly durable.

Good ones are Brownell's Aluma-Hyde II and Lauer Duracoat.
Both are epoxies that require no baking.

The downsides for you are that none of these coating will adhere very well to a nickel plated part, and very likely the steel will continue to rust under the coating and the plating and you'll have both still flaking off.
