Collecting/accumulating… doubling up? Tripling up?

Posted these before. Twin 1954 357 Magnums. Just counted my Pre-29's. Four 6 1/2" and two 4". Go for it Model29-26.5View attachment 754185
This is spot on.
I don't have a pre-29 yet but it's coming…next year or two.
I need go without purchasing for a while and save for a bit.
but I need that 4" nickel 25-5. And the 8"…. at the right price, of course.

I have some 19-3, two of which are 4" blue. Same exact thing.
Also doubling up on a 29-2 blue in 6.5… and will be several others…
I've learned this is certainly a thing with folks.
How many of you have doubled up even tripled or more and have several of exactly the same model, barrel length, finish and variant?
How many carbon copies does one need to be "done"?
I'm eyeing up a 25-5, a couple of 27-2 and several 29-2s.. carbon copies of what I already have, but am drawn to wanting more… especially they look:
1) Nicer than the what I have
2) Like a great deal
3) Like a real beater that is way cheaper but has some worn character that you can shoot without worrying about the finish.
I have come to the conclusion, that at least for the foreseeable future, there is no end to accumulation/collecting, whether you already have what you want or not.
And there is no telling yourself not to want something. If you want it, you want it..
I need to take a lesson in patience again as an adult.
It's an addiction, but perfectly legal unless your wife doesn't get it. Then the fun begins. 😁😁😁

I had two 3" 65 Lady Smiths. Bought one from here, and a week or so later found one local. Ended up trading one for a 696, then sold it for $1,300 and bought a 3" 66.

Well, I have been known to double up. More on caliber than on model. I am down to 2 M15's, and 4 M28's. I also have 2 Colt Govt 45's. Everything else is single. I do believe that I am going to let go of a lot of my duplicates and multiples in caliber sometime in the near future.

You should see the milsurp rifle collectors. I swear that some of them have a nice example for show and a so-so piece as a shooter for each year of production. But unless you can see the detail, it can look like an arsenal of identical guns.

I do appreciate a nice pair. I've handled a few in my time....but I digress.

Most of my duplicates are gone but I've had 4 and 6" 28 pairs, 4 and 6" 29 pairs, a nice brace of 5" 629 Classics, a brace of Detective Specials, and a brace of 2 1/2 inch 19-5s. There are many regrets running through my mind as I type this.

Well..
I finally had to double up on a 27-2 6" Blue.
The one I already have has a few dings, worn areas and scratches.
Just won another bid..
Big difference.
I paid a little over the odds, but not too much. A little layaway makes it easier.

While they're not collectibles and thus maybe not appropriate for this thread, I liked my (original version) CSX enough that I picked up a second one from a friend who didn't love his - one is carried locally and the other is a roadie that goes on trips in checked luggage.

I've got multiples of the 640, 10-5, 64ND, 64-2, 65-5LS, 28-2, SP-101, GP-100 and Colt MKIV/70 repros. I've got a bunch of KelTec P-32's also. There are some guns I just really like, and some times I find deals on them that I can't pass up. I'm trying to keep it to no more than three identical examples of any one gun.

There is only one gun I have more than 1 of: Colt Officers Model .22 LR (3rd issue). The first is 85-90% but came from my handloading mentor via his son after he passed. Buzz jeweled the hammer for some reason 🙄 so the collectors value is gone. Shoots great though, and it's the first handgun my daughter ever shot. That one stays. The second is a near perfect WWII example with box and goodies. Keeper! The third I bought because the price was so good even without the Sanderson target grips that I just had to have. In theory I'm swapping those grips onto #1 and selling #3 but that hasn't happened yet …
