Colt AR-15 A2

Nice AR-15s you acquired. Mine are all Colts.

Here's the first one I had, back in the late 1960s. It started out as an SP-1, later upgraded with an M16A1 upper and buttstock.

The next one was an early AR-15 "Shorty," upgraded with later components to as close to an M4 carbine as I could cobble together.

Along the way, I purchased this AR-15 HBAR match model, which is as close to an M16A2 as I could get.

All are fine guns, and satisfy my desire to have AR models that mirror issue firearms as closely as possible.

I also traded into this nice AR-180, which at the time was pretty much state of the art, but now has become a collector item.

This Israeli Galil in .223 has been the only non-U.S. equivalent - just had to have one; they are quite robust and reliable, using the AK formula.

These guns kept me busy handloading ammo to feed them for quite a number of years!

No. Aftermarket.

The original SP1 and the early AR15A2's had the large take down pin. There was no "fence"with the spring detent take down pin like the M16A1.

This part was an attempt to improve the take down without using 2 screwdrivers.

Definitely not factory. Maybe a variation for Europe export.

Green Label guns and prior (pre-1990/91) had the large take-down pins unlike the more commonly seen Blue Labels.

I see what you mean. Almost like a retaining spring like on an HK. None of mine have those, likely not factory.

What is up with the take down pins? Been modified? Different from my pre ban H Bar Sporter.

I know Valmet but what I see is not the large screw head take-down. It looks like some sort of quick disconnect with 3 small ball bearings on the left side inside of a ring. Look close and you will see what I mean. Never seen a setup like that before. Maybe an export thing?

KNS precision, bought them from Brownells.

They have a new model with the end closed, makes it easier to operate

A shot of the 6420 for comparison.

A mix of A1 and A2 features.

Great pair of AR-15A2's CLASSIC12. I have GOV'T MODEL GS 006873. They are hard to find here in high condition as well. Couldn't get my hands on my Gov't Carbine right now. Buried too deep. I also have a 6420 (tear drop FA) which don't come up for sale often. I too am a fan of Colts from that time period.

Beauty, both of them

I had a weird one, kinda transition model

Colt told me it was a 1988 Gvt Carbine R6520. It has all the attributes of it, but it has the previous markings of the R6420 (Sporter II)

My AR15A2. But not a Colt.

This is an original Bushmaster made in Windham Maine, not a Remington Ilion NY wannabe.

It has everything a USGI M16A2 would have, minus the 3 round burst option. Made in 2004 just after the idiotic AWB expired.

This rifle has the correct front take down pin, and no block like the Colts.

It's a keeper

My "AR15A1". Half Colt.

This is a Colt M16A1 upper paired with a Fulton Armory lower. USGI A1 butt stock and pistol grip.

This is before Nodak Spud made the reproduction M16A1 lower, so it is an A2 lower.

It may not show in the pics, but the lower is darker than the upper. And, that is correct, for some M16A1's.

My buddy had a genuine legal Class 3 H&R M16A1, and the lower was darker than the upper.

Maybe not as collectible as the original SP1, or some of the Green Label A2's, but I think that it's pretty cool

The differences between the 6520 and 6420 is not just the rear sights, but the straight Vs angled hand guard collar and tear drop Vs large button FA (later to become small button). I knew you would have a 6000.
