I have an 617-4 4inch 10 shot.

Anyone have the Colt? I saw a 4inch @ a gun show today. Looks really nice. Price was $999.

I bought a 4" Colt here on the forum. Nice feel and accurate. Terrible DA and SA. All the internals were roughly finished. Very disappointing on a Colt. Spent a few hours stoning and polishing. Wound up very nice and now it's a really nice gun that is a hoot to shoot. Others I've seen right out the box were much nicer than mine. Guess mine slipped through the inspection crack if there is one. Now I like it much better than my 617.

I was looking at a 4" .22 King Cobraa couple of weeks ago, really sharp looking gun. If I were to get one of the new Colts, that would be it. The 6" not so much. The proportions just don't look good to my eye. That frame is too small for a 6" VR full lug barrel.

I enjoy the Colt and my 617. Definitely two different approaches. I appreciate the smaller size of the Colt for prolonged shooting. Will probably swap out front and rear Colt sights.

I put a cheap red dot on the 617 which helps out old eyes considerably.

Can't say I would ever want to get rid of either one.

Had a 617 4" and bought a 4.25" KC. The Smith was a fine revolver, very accurate and excellent DA trigger but when I bought my Colt I found I no longer shot my 617. Both the Colt and Smith are equally fine guns but I like the size, balance and weight of the Colt better so I wound up trading my 617.

I picked one up last winter, had it to the range once before I moved and had a lot of misfires. At some point I will get it back to the range with a variety of ammo and see what happens. If it still has issues I will send it back to Colt. Beautifully fit and finished but if I had to choose between that and my 617's I'd stick with the 617's.

I was initially attracted to the new Colt's beauty, but after further inspection I quickly discovered the chambers aren't recessed like rimfire chambers should be. In the case of the rimfires, recessing provides an extra margin of safety against rims blowing out. A small one, but a real one, to be sure. I'll stick with my Colt Diamondback and S&W K frame rimfire revolvers and their antiquated, recessed chambers.

I saw a Diamondback 4 inch rimfire yesterday at a show priced at IIRC 2295? Is that what they go for?

Yes, that's what they're going for; I would have bought it at that price, especially if it were nickel. I gave $2200 for my blue 6" a few years ago. Mine is like new with box and goodies. Nickel examples with shorter barrels are much more. I think the 2.5" 38 is the best ccw revolver. Similar in size as a J frame, 6 shot and sexy!

It was blue, and no box, but in exc condition. Likely could have got it for hundreds less but didn't have that much cash, and really not that much interested in one.

Been there many times and totally understand. :)

Although they don't command that much, the 2" 63 is getting $$$. They're a fun little piece.

I bought two 6" blue Diamondback .22s years ago because I liked the looks.

I think many don't buy the older Diamondback .22s to shoot, so I guess accuracy shouldn't matter to them. I sold both of mine a couple of years ago. I shot them a good bit and neither could be called accurate; in fact, the least accurate of all .22 revolvers I've had (all Colt or S&W).

For me, the factory stocks always felt awkward. Of course, that's subjective and will vary from one shooter to another.

I had the same experience as .38SuperMan did - I noticed I just always brought the Colt along and kept leaving the Smith at home, so I sold off the Smith and the Colt gets all the attention now. I do have an older 6 shot 17 that still reigns supreme but, for the 10 shot guns, my nod goes to Colt.

I prefer the 4.25" gun but if you have room for a 6", Arms Unlimited is running them out at $850 currently.
