Colt Combat Elite thoughts?

I kind of like Colts…

How'd those old junk Colt 45s work out in World War One and Two? Korea? Vietnam?

They did better than the overpriced, fanboy Bear, Wilsons and Nighthawks that were there. Oh wait. There weren't any of these there, were there?
Overpriced junk built as a status symbol.

While I defend Colt vigorously when
it comes to the 1911, I wouldn't
disparage the semi customs 1911
such as from Wilson.

They are built to close tolerances,
have excellent machined parts and
reflect the artisan workmanship that
goes into them. True, they are not
always as reliable with every junk
load or brand that goes through a
Colt. I believe they are not just
assembled but are truly fitted
by those artisans. And those
artisans deserve decent pay for
their specialty work.

But I'll stick with Colt although
I do own some Springfield Armroy
1911s as well. I think Springfield's
new Ronin is just peachy keen.

Oh, Rah Rah Rah.... we can agree to disagree.

Which one killed more Nazis reliably?

A) Wilson Combat
B) Colt
C) Ed Brown
D)Nighthawk

( spoiler alert- there is only one winner, and none are fanboy guns)

I also don't think John Browning would consider himself an "artisan"....

Probably just a Patriot.

Like that guy who designed the other piece of Junk that Colt built-

Eugene Wilson.... um, I mean Eugene Stoner.

Yeah- Colt is junk. But I'll take my late teens rattling Colt over their 6500.00 "artisan" built whatever.

Get back to me in the year 2131 on how wonderful the others are. If anyone even REMEMBERS any of those other names then.

They'll STILL know the name COLT, and John Browning, and be shooting one of the originals. There may be a whole new flock of "artisans" then, too.

Only ONE original.
Which one will that be?
A) Wilson Combat
B) Colt
C) Ed Brown
D)Nighthawk

Lay out a bunch of 1911 pistols and the first one I'll pick up will invariably be a Colt. Somewhat ironically, it was Bill Wilson himself who wrote something to the effect that "if you could have your choice of a Colt or a Springfield, free of charge, which one would you choose?" Of course, he's not offering any of his pistols for free, but I still like Colts and I have more than a few of them.

However, when it comes to shooting, I prefer my Smith revolvers over everything else.

So the slide upon recoil comes back and in theory hits the plastic guide rod, mainly the base rather than metal. I learned that years ago over on the 1911 forum from people that have forgotten more info on 1911's than I've learned.
