Picked this up today at the Houston show.
I have been looking for a lightweight but they are
High and hard to find lately.
This type finish is tuff to maintain...but, it was fairly crisp
save the lugnut mark.
Alot of S&W's at the show but no deals.

That's a nice pistol. I have one just like it but in the later type box. It's always been a good shooter and I haven't had the issues with the finish that lots of other folks have.

I really like Commanders and thats a fine looking one. You will enjoy it.

Had a lightweight .45 Commander for a work gun in those days which I really liked. Never cared for that style of stocks, though...too slippery. The alloy frame finally cracked at the dust cover and the replacement frame never made up into as reliable a gun again. Really hated to part with it but it just wasn't the same gun anymore.

Plus my agency decided that it was just too 'dangerous' aka efficient for anyone to actually use on duty.

Says "Combat Commander" on the slide and has the satin finish of my 1976 model. Better than the lightweight, IHMO. Lucky you.

THAT is a dandy! I bought one just like it in 1974. Sent it to Austin Behlert and had S&W sights installed, ejection port lowered, etc, etc.

It was stolen in 1978. ALWAYS missed that gun.

I have a couple of Commanders but wish I'd gotten really interested in them before they got so expensive.
I'd like one in satin nickel but one is hard to locate around here.

Nice find. I have a blue Combat Commander of the same vintage. I was also at the show. It was crowded. All I bought a bunch of brass and bullets and primers. I was fortunate. I found some Winchester Large Rifle primers for $32 a box and the brass and bullets were very cheap from a guy that was trying to unload them. I had to track down a box to carry everything out.

Nice satin nickel commander

Looks to be in excellent shape...the box too! So, how much did this one set you back I wonder....I bought one a few years ago with a little more finish wear, but still nice, for 600.00! I like commanders, I'm looking for a .38 Super one now...

Congratulations . I have a satin nickel Combat Commander in 9mm, not as nice condition as your appears to be though. Probably to be put on my "to sell this year" list as I don't shoot it.

I did the exact same thing, but I still have mine. Sorry about your loss.

That is a super looking Colt..... Is the finish Satin Nickle(a.k.a Electroless)

This is a 1979 Series 70 MK IV Government Model with the Satin Nickle finish. It has a lot more wear than the photo shows. (I over exposed it)
