Colt Delta or Dan Wesson 10mm?

I agree with your dislike for the G20, and I have a G20SF that is my current hiking gun....until either S&W or Sig makes a striker 10mm- then it's for sale. Don't like the grip angle.

As for the Colt, this waning on Underwood's 10mm page says enough to me that I would avoid the Delta. There may be an aftermarket solution but I've never researched it. If all the Delta can do is weak 10mm, then you'd be better off with the .40s&w instead.

So this ammunition is loaded beyond SAAMI spec? If so, why would you use it in anything? Any SAAMI spec ammo should be safe in a Delta Elite.

I like ramped barrels but they are not an excuse for handloading delinquency, or for using non-spec factory ammunition, IMO - if you value your eyes and fingers!

I vote for Colt. The quality of a Colt is the best it has ever been and the name will always guarantee it will hold its value. Just my thoughts.

That said, if you really want to shoot warm loads, there is nothing much wrong with the 4 inch Model 29 or 629. It was good enough for Elmer, so it is good enough for me.

I'm not sure if you are referring to my post but if you're asking if the Underwood 10mm is hotter than SAAMI specs, the answer is no. They load to the top of the spec while most other commercial sources are loading it to the bottom or below, much like they do with .357 Sig ammo.

There are not a lot of ammo makers loading 10mm to it's actual spec for reasons which are open to speculation, but nevertheless, if I'm going to shoot 10mm, I want to shoot 10mm- not .40s&w in a longer case.

I had a stainless EAA Match 10mm... solid gun, descent trigger, and respectable accuracy. Picked it up used for $500 in like new condition. I sold it because I found a Colt Gold Cup Elite in .40. I have a small bucket full of .40 brass...not so much with the 10mm brass. I would buy another EAA again.

My brother (gunsmith) just picked up a new Colt DE 10. He had no intention of buying it (other than he was interested in another 10mm), but he was thoroughly impressed with it's tight lockup & well fit slide.

He used to have a 1006. He shot sized down .41 mag 215gr swc bullets that were stuffed them in a case full of Blue Dot (right at a compressed load).... that gun was a whoot!.... But he said he was looking for something a little more refined this time... whatever that means.

We had just recently debated the selection of 10's... I'm still curious about the sig 220/10mm.

I had a Glock 20 back around '93 or so... used to love letting loose with the PMC 200grain TC ammo...until one of the pins backed out of the side of the frame. So was I supposed to carry around a hammer with me?... so I got rid of it. Funny how one little incident can sour you so quick.

I had a Rock Island Tac II....certainly not putting it in the same class as either of the two in question, but liked it very much. The old age is settling in and my wrists can not take the recoil like it could before. When it is not fun to shoot at the range and stay proficient with it....well time to move on. To put my vote in....I would chose the Dan Wesson over the Colt. Colts have never done it for me...not saying they are bad, just never feel right.

Given the two options mentioned, and assuming that the DW is actually a CZ gun with a warranty, I'd probably go for it. Colt is a company on the ropes and it may not be there if you need them. CZ is a strong company getting stronger.
Of course, if the C-O-L-T factor gets your blood boiling, then the above argument may not apply.

Just bought this one 2 weeks ago off GA for $799. I didn't even have to think about it! Came with original box and paperwork too. ;)

That's a nice Colt! Hard to go wrong at that price.

I'm not sure the DW or the Colt is the right first 10mm for me now. Leaning towards the Glock 20, but I need to look at the Sig P220. It seems to have a lot features I would like. Should be a quality firearm, and the single stack should fit my hand a little better than the Glock.

I'll probably change my mind again in 5 min.:o

An update:

I did not get a Dan Wesson or a Colt Delta Elite.

I picked up a Sig Sauer P220 in single action yesterday. I ran about 75 rounds through it last night and absolutely love it. I think this will very quickly go to the top of my favorite firearm list. It fits my hand very well, naturally aims well, seems to be very accurate.

I was shooting a steel plate so I couldn't see a pattern, but hit it pretty consistently from roughly 15-20 yards right out of the box. It is a stout gun at 2lb 12oz, but that helps with the recoil which is very manageable, and the pistol has a very nice balance to it. I was shooting Armscor 180gr FMJ.

I'll need to find a good load I can use for deer, and if I can find a holster for it, will probably take it hunting in a few months.

I didn't know SIG was making the 220 in 10 mm so is this is something new (a production model?) or a custom gun? Any chance for a picture and further info? :)

They are in production as of earlier this year. There are a few different variations of them. Hunter, duo tone, double/single action, single action only...

Im having great difficulty posting pics. I'll keep trying hopefully figure it out!

I picked up one of the new Sig P220s in 10mm recently. I LOVE IT! I have the all stainless (blackened slide for some reason...) DA/SA version with night sights. It's heavy, but not really a concealed carry gun. I got it as a "woods" gun, where I can stuff it full of hot 10mm loads. I've put a couple hundred 180gr practice loads through it and recently picked up the heavy Buffalo Bore 220gr hard cast load - so far it's 100% reliable, wickedly accurate - what's not to love! It holds 9 rounds total. I had Diamond D Leather make me a chest rig for it, with a spare magazine pouch attached.

I'll have to work on photos soon...

I believe the only models currently out are the stainless single action only with target sights model and the stainless (2 tone black over silver) DA/SA with fixed night sights model. The hunter (camo finish with red dot sight option) is due to be released later in the year I was told.

I can only get one pic to upload for some reason. This gives you an idea of what mine looks like. It's single action only, and has target sights. Thinking about putting a reflex sight on it.

Update:

After running several hundred rounds through the Sig, I absolutely love it.

Fit and finish is great, and it is built to last; a very solid firearm.

I have had no failures of any kind, and the accuracy of this gun is outstanding. Had a 2" five shot group at 22 yards freestanding, and also was able to put several rounds on paper from 45 yards freestanding with target ammo.

I ordered some hunting and self defense rounds from Doubletap so I am looking forward to having those soon and shooting them next week. If things go well, I will definatly be hunting with this in a couple of months.

It was a lot of money over the Glock, but the fit the gun to my hand and the balance is well worth the extra money. It field strips very easily. I really like the look and feel of a 1911, and being able to break it down easily like a glock or springfield.

No regrets. I bought once, and winced once. Money well spent.

Thanks for the follow-up. I'd have to agree that there is a lot to be said for a P220 versus a G20 for an outdoorsman. My concern would be that the 10mm round is a bit light for deer, if that is your plan. One hears a lot of the 10 being "a .41 Magnum in an automatic" and of course the truth is that it is far from it. If the shots are close and you use a heavy bullet, and they go exactly where you want them to, maybe it will do.

The 2-inch group sounds like typical .45-caliber
P220 accuracy. I'd be interested to hear more about what the gun does from a benchrest. Some P220s can be pretty darned accurate with the ammunition they prefer.

Good luck with your SIG 10mm. :)

LOL! I was reading through this thread planning on recommending you at least look at the sig. I think you made a good choice, and will be very happy with your new gun.
