Ive been drooling over the new blued colt anaconda. That's a really sharp looking gun. If they had done a 5" model I'd most likely already have one. As it is they've only so gar released a 4.25, a 6 and an 8. The 4 and 6 are nice but a 5 would be my choice.
Anyway, I signed up over at the colt forum to get a sense of what people might have to say about them or the new pythons in general since it appears that the anaconda, while it was more reminiscent of the trooper action back in the '90's is the exact same action as the NEW python just bigger.
The colt forum is nothing like this forum. Jere there are people really dedicated and exhaustively knowledgeable about s&w guns and give, or can give if required very technical answers, answers about history, how they work, how they don't work, values, repairs and modifications, options and on and on. There is nothing you can't find here. I've seen many threads here go for pages upon pages of conversation, all with hidden gems of knowledge in them. There are threads with simple banter back and forth between a myriad of folks, its fun to be here.
I just was expecting that sort of atmosphere there too give the equal historical value of colt and their firearms with the saa, 1911, trooper, python and yes, the m4 which is historical in its own right. Its not like that there. Now Im in no way saying theyre is not nice enough folks there, I dont know any of them but they seem very nice so far, and welcoming but just scanning back through the pages in various catagories, well, its just not as entertaining as this bunch. Im glad to be a part of this forum.

Not at all true in my ten plus years of being a Colt Forum member. In general the discussion there respectful...informative and well behaved. Not that there isn't occasional dustup between some members. There are other forums that match the unfriendly description...full of knuckleheads and moderators that are Gestapo wannabes that get off on power.

The Colt Forum is a class act.
 
I joined the Colt forum when I got a GCNM Super Elite 38Super and a non-issued 1943 1911-A1 . The people over there bent over backwards to help me and to answer all my questions . With any online presence you're going to have to"THOSE" people , and we've had some here . But the staff here keep things under control , which we are all thankful for . It seems there's a core group in each section here , and they are the one's that keep this place rocking . I don't see that on the Colt forum , but that doesn't make it bad . Just use it as a tool , then come home .

Colt Forum, It’s a group of SERIOUS collector and well heeled buyers. Lots of experts there. They don’t like New CZ Colt! 😂 I like it there.

A great fun website that I left for politics reasons is TheHighroad.

Nothing wrong with serious and there's little superfluous material. Almost no Internet imagined gunfighting as found on other forums.

After all the kids are in bed, Wife is asleep. I turn on the Clint Eastwood 70’s Western and strap on my pair of Colt’s. That’s my imaginary gunfightng! 😂

Colt Forum is a bit of a Good Ole’ Boys Club. Long established members. I get it!
 
I've been a member of both the Colt Forum and this forum for over 20 years.

I've learned a ton of things, bought some great guns, and made friends on both forums.
I would bet 70-80% percent of
members of either forum are
members of both.
I have never understood this "Chevy vs Ford" bs. One doesn't have to choose or bash the other product, or the folks that like them. We have been lucky in the US that we have had two great companies making these firearms
since 1836 snd 1854, respectively.

Sad to say, the original poster's
comments are dismaying and disappointing.

Good post. I think most persons who have belonged to both forums for more than a short time would be in complete agreement with you.
 
I am on there and I like it. But there are few instances where it gets exciting.

Post a picture a Walker you found in you Grampa's closet and watch the boo-birds come out. 99 out of 100 will tell you it is a fake. A couple months ago, this happened, and then the guy shipped it off to the experts and was found to be correct. That was some fun reading.

But, yes, they get serious,

Own a lot of both and have been a member at coltforum for many years. From what I've seen is the most active members are SAA collectors and know those guns like no one else. Some really high value and scarce 1873s are what is mostly talked about and shown. Also, the vintage DAs and a fair amount of the 1911.
Not so much the current models.
I'm more into the Colt Officer Models. Some truly great target revolvers and made during Colts absolute prime.

Last year on the Colt Forum it seemed like once a month some new member would start in his first post about someone in his family found a previously unknown 1847 Walker or a genuine Little Bighorn Single-action Army. People get hopeful but suspicious of such claims out of experience.

After some good photos get posted…always poor pics in the initial posts…those with real knowledge and expertise show these allegedly “genuine” Colts to be Italian clones aged and weathered to appear genuine.

People want to see genuine Walkers to be unearthed…but no genuine examples have been found for over fifty or more years. We all want to see more found but experience and scammers have taught us that skepticism is warranted

Absolutely true.
The Colt Forum gets a lot of drive-by posters, some of whom express annoyance or anger if they don't get the answers they're hoping for. Most don't show
any abiding intetest in Colt firearms and are looking for a free appraisal. Even if the exchanges are pleasant we rarely hear from them again.
I imagine this forum does, too.
 
I thought the colt forum and its members to be fine folks but admittedly I don’t go there a lot. So prob not qualified to pass judgement.

I do recall seeing a fair number of the same handles being used here over there.
 
I’ve been on the Colt Forum longer than here, and from my still limited experience, there seems to be less tolerance for the “drive by” posters on the Colt Forum vs either of the S&W forums.

A lot these “drive bys” are also trying to skirt the marketplace rules and want to sell whatever they are asking about. And some of those are definite scammers. It does get repetitive and frustrating after a while, especially when you have a rash of them in a short time.

For people that have a genuine interest and want to get involved in the discussions, I have found it extremely welcoming and helpful.

One of the differences in all of these forums is how much people are permitted to wander off topic and still survive. There is a lot more to life than being a cop and S&W or Colt. If the forum is too strict, it become too exclusive and boring. Example would be a Colt is presented and a half dozen real experts pass judgement, a few guys argue a bit.....maybe....but are proven to be wrong and that's it! Move on to the next ignorant member. Wandering away from what the experts consider their territory will be ridiculed with stuff like "Let's talk about recipes". Like if it's not on topic it is a disaster. This site hits it perfectly.....these guys let it go and watch what happens, when whatever has run it's course they let it go. This site is INTERESTING and that makes it worth posting and reading. Today we have very few places to express ourselves to other people and we need more forums like this one, a lot more...

What you say makes much sense to a point, but when "you let go and see what happens" you usually wind up with a degradation of the thread - one that may become many pages and 80% or thereabouts of the material is erroneous, altogether worthless, or based on uneducated opinions by the inexperienced.

You mention that if a forum is "too strict, it becomes too exclusive and boring". Could be to an extent, but it keeps out a lot of extraneous/junk material. The extraneous/ junk material is what makes things boring.

Another perspective...This is a good forum, even if one has to weed out that those posts which are valueless. We are of vastly varying degrees of gun education and experience. A novice (and I've been there many times on this forum and others) tries to learn about a subject he knows little about and asks basic questions. That's as it should be and such questions (and many subsequent posts) are not valueless and are often helpful to the person asking a question.

Pretty complex stuff going on here. I suppose no one has all the answers.

That's kinda what I'm saying. And, the traffic they do have is just not as informative or in-depth as what's found here. This forum can be very technical when that's what is required and not when not. The replys here (the knowledge) seems to be gar more in-depth too.
I'm not downing anyone on the colt forms personalities, not at all, the people seem fine, it just seemed odd to me the "shallow" nature of the replies.
Ive been a member of the 1911forum for years and years along with several other forums. Not all forums are equal is all I can say. Well, that, and that this is probably one of the best for the sheer amount of knowledge that's here.
