For those wishing a leather flap holster for S&W and Colt M1917 revolvers, there are several sources for replica M1917 holsters (both RH and LH) which are very well made and sell for modest prices. Google is your friend. I have some for my M1917s and Colt New Service revolvers and have been very pleased with their quality and workmanship. With some neatsfoot oil applied and some wear, they are nearly indistinguishable from the originals.

Nice old Colt. I remember when arsenal-refinished 1917s were fairly common on the market; evidently quite a few were done during the WWII period, and actually used by the services. In the late 1960s I bought one similar to yours. I mistakenly believed that it didn't have much collector value as a refurb, so I sold it somewhere along the way. Now, I would recognize it as an example of the period when we were scrambling to put almost any old 1911/1911A1/1917 back into service. You do have a piece of history there.

i was originally considering a high condition original colt 1917 at a considerably higher price. ... but i eventually concluded i had the ww1 rig covered with the S&W and ended up specifically looking for a re-arsenaled ww2 gun.
of course, now i'd like both.
