1917 Grouping

Okay, I wanted to do this since I bought the 1917. So, be gentle, it's my first time.
Original belt, canteen & cover, pouch. Reproduction ammo pouch and holster.

My wife's grandfather fought in WWI (Argonne Forest) and survived mustard gas. My grandfather was in later and went to the Phillipines with the army in 1921.

No need to be gentle - nice grouping.
It took me years to get my grouping together, and some of it was dumb luck. Patience is your friend. If you want original stuff, just upgrade when you can.
Question: What is the second pouch from the left?

It was listed as a squad leader's pouch. I will be looking for an affordable ammo pouch, but I will need some luck to find a holster with the toe plug and tie. The search is part of the fun.

Great start! You might want to look for a lanyard and the ring if it is missing.

A nail or a drill shank work nicely to secure the lanyard loop.

You might try a roll pin. Many diameters available.

My wife's grandfather Pvt. Milton Nichols 28, was in the (BIG RED 1) 1st Division 16th Infantry Co. D in WWI. He was gassed October 9th 1918 during the Meuse Argonne offensive. It didn't kill him, but it shot his nerves to the point my M-I-L had to stay with her grandparents during summer break.

Beautiful set up! Maybe a vintage WW1 combat knife to complete it? Didn’t they use MK1 trench knives? I could be wrong, and probably am. I think the used a thinner, more fragile version called a M1917 before swapping over to the sturdier MK1.
