Colt is gonna produce the Mustang Pocketlite again. Their WS has pics and lists an MSRP of $600. It seems like they missed the boat.

I have one of the "original" Pony pocketlites, there goes the value of that:(

Some time ago I called Colt about maybe doing some work on a 1911. I spoke with a real nice lady and we got on the topic of how Colt had been "ahead" of the times with the .380 craze. She hinted that they were working on it without actually telling me exactly.

The new Colt Mustang has been released, on the market and the first run was completely sold out the day they left their Factory. I had the opportunity to actually shoot 100 rounds through one about three weeks ago and it was nothing short of SPECTACULAR!

The workmanship, fitment and function was 100%. At that time I fired 100, and my friend who owns it put another 150 rounds through it. All mixed ammo, NOT ONE SINGLE HICCUP in 250 rounds - which is exactly the way it should be. None of this "500 round break-in period" which I hate and think is the Gun Companies lack of duty to make sure they work right out of the box. When a gun comes out of the box it SHOULD be reliable right then and there, IMHO of course!

The trigger on the pistol was better than his brand new S&W .45ACP ($1500 bucks) that he also just got; it was crisp and broke at about 4 pounds. The gun fires the .380 acp and it handles much better than most of the plastic .380's on the market that I have had the opportunity to shoot. The sights were actually usable and the accuracy at 15 yards was dead on. The gun is also forged metal and feels like a real gun. My friend paid $599 + tax, and while I am not a big .380 fan I am actually considering buying one when the next shipment is released.

This is late to come onto the .380 market, but it is by no means just another .380. If I ever did carry a .380 ......this would be the one for sure!

I also hear tell that Colt is planning on making he DS or DSll once again. It will be a while, but if they release it with the same quality and workmanship as the Mustang, (and NO I/L) I think they will be quite successful with it. While I am mainly a Smith fan, I do not and will not own a gun with any locking mechanism on it. Who knows, maybe it will finally force S&W to drop he lock? :) :)

I guess the crazy sales of the Sig woke them up that they were losing money...

It seems like they missed the boat.

Them missing the boat has nearly been their undoing a time or two already hasn't it?

I'm not much into the micro guns but from what I've seen heard or read the new 380 looks like a winner

I think that Colt FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY woke up and realized that unless they get back into the Civilian Market once again they are history! Hey, it took them long enough and I don't know the politics evolved, but the important thing is that they are making a commitment, opened up a NEW Plant in Florida, and are back in the game!! As long as their products are good, I will support them and wish them luck.

I have an older Pocketlite .380. It has been a good little gun and I have no complaints about it, but as a pocket gun I think it has been eclipsed by more modern designs that are both slimmer and lighter. That said, I am in no big hurry to sell the one I have. But I agree with you. In today's market, they are bound to be a day late and a dollar short with that one. (not unusual for Colt :) )

.

I had the all steel Pony. The Pony's were way ahead of their time. I'd be surprised if Colt brought them out again, although I'd have preferred that model be re intro'ed "myself".
The "guts" on the DSII, SF, and Magnum carry, are different than the original DS. And the firing pin is frame mounted in the later models with new internals. Personally I'd rather have the original.

I have this one:

Does anyone know if the new Mustangs still have plastic triggers and slide spring guide rods? My original, which I think I paid $330 for new, beat up the end of the guide rod fairly quickly. I bought a plastic replacement and also had a friend who owns a machine shop make one from steel. To me the plastic was just poor design. I suppose they were trying to save money and weight, but it backfired as far as I'm concerned. I suppose the value of my original Mustang(not a Pocketlite) dropped with the new offering although I don't intend to sell it anyway. The only hope would be to get a lst generation, second generation status going like the SAA's.

Colt Government, same family.

Purchased in 1990 for $325.00, still have it, great firearm.

Although I do use a Mustang on occasion...It's mostly for the grandson's woods and or kit gun.

I personally had a disappointing performance experience
with the 380 ACP or 9 mm kutz (short) once.
Swore off'n it...Now'n'forever and ten years.

Once a BUG to my bigger BUG...But, not anymore.

I know we're all aware of this, but since we're on the subject. Make sure if your .380 Colt Mustang, II, Gov., etc. is older production that little yellow clip is in there.

Firearm Recalls and Safety Warnings 2- FirearmsID.com

I don't have the clip in mine. Thanks for the info. That toll free # isn't working though. I just talked to Colt my Plus II was mfg. 1993, they said it wasn't affected by the recall.

I paid $825 for my Plus II a few years ago.

Ouch! I paid $600 for an almost NIB Plus II with all the papers, and extra mag. in September of last year on line, and thought I paid too much.

Best shooting .380 I own, and yes, it has the yellow clip.

"I personally had a disappointing performance experience..."

I bet ol' Daves disappointing performance experience is a lot different than ours and was quite a bit more serious too! :D
