Hello all:

Will Colt industries ever make revolvers again?

Why?

Why not?

Just asking and it is a sincere question.

If this has been done if you will direct me to the link I will go there and read?

Thanks. :D

Colt has been in financial trouble for quite a while. M-16 contracts have gone to other companies like F.N. Every gun maker seems to offer AR's and 1911's. The double action revolver designs Colt made were labor intensive to put together and the market for them is pretty small by comparison.

Colt's quality is probably as good as it has ever been in the post-WWII age, and the things that don't cost a lot to capitalize, like customer service, has been excellent the last few years, but the marketplace is harsh.

Outside of the Single Action Army series, I doubt Colt will ever make revolvers again. I'd like to be wrong.

A rumor was floated by a factory rep within the past year that DA revolver production was under consideration. They just emerged from bankruptcy so we'll see. An Italian company (Pietta?) has announced they will make a Python replica.

Colt? Colt who?

Love to see it happen but most of their products were made on machinery from early in the previous century. I don't know if they could afford to do a complete ramp up with CAD or new type machinery.

And any new product would have to have minimal craftsmen which would mean complete new designs.

However, COLT IF YOU ARE LISTENING!!!!!
There are companies such as Remington that has Modern equipment who might make special runs.

Yes it needs to look like a Cobra, Detective, Python or SAA and to further cut costs, like bluing, it needs to be stainless.

Another option would be for some deeper pockets company to buy them..... Colt by any other name is still Colt.

P.S. Pietta has dropped the idea, perhps I read that on this forum.

Smith devotee that I am, I'd love to see them make the Cobra and/or DS2 or 3 again. But I'm sure if they did I'd never be able to afford one.

Don't know how they could build a quality DA revolver and keep the price down to where they could compete with S&W, Ruger and the others. Combine that with the early teething problems all new products suffer thru, (See the Remington R51), it all adds up to a big hill to climb. I wish them success whichever road Colt chooses to travel.

I don't see why they couldn't make a modern coil spring gun in stainless. They can change things, just like they left the old New Service behind after WWII. They changed the Trooper when they came out with the Mark III. They really need to enter the poly auto LE market, to make money, I would think. Although I seriously doubt that I would ever own one.

I doubt Colt will be making DA revolvers anytime soon. Given their financial problems, it's more likely that they would have someone else, probably overseas, to make them under the Colt brand, if anything. Or possibly gun parts to be assembled into revolvers and marketed by Colt.
