In Columbus proper: Vance's Shooter's Supply on Cleveland Avenue.
In Reynoldsburg (east side suburb) there is a Gander Mountain Firearms Super Center on Taylor Road.

Black Wing Shooting Center in nearby Delaware is where I go. They're apparently the only 5-star rated shooting center in the Midwest and they always have a good variety of guns and gear.

Why the thumbs down???

I second Vance's Shooter's Supply on Cleveland Avenue. (When my Uncle was alive he went there quite a bit and took me there when I was younger and lived in Grandview.)
They have about everything. I've bought a few there over the last 30 tears or so. I live about an hour away now, and have had a local big box store match there prices to save me a trip on occasion.... :)

Heck with the guns.... Head on over to the German section and get some hearty food and beer!!!!!

I love Vance's. It's about the biggest independent around with some super deals - but I will say that it is the only gun shop I've ever been in where I felt I had to be armed. Great deals but a bad neighborhood. Truly a must-see in my book.

There's also a Cabela's on Polaris Parkway about a mile North of I-270 on I-71.

In Westerville, there is a basement gun shop named Aumiller. It's as much a museum as a gun shop but the coffee's hot and free.

And as Jerry says, the Gander Mountain has a ton of guns.

Vance's always has a pretty good selection, but I don't care what day or time you go in, it's always crowded, pick a number an wait sorta deal (which if you think about it, means they're doing something right to keep drawing the crowds). Not so much in the last year, but traditionally they have a good selection of used guns. They're the number 1 dealer by volume in Ohio and do a lot of LEO business, so if you're in the market for a 3rd gen S&W semi, it's a good place to start. The same group also owns Buckeye outdoors a half hour east in Hebron just north of I-70. The Gander Mountain mentioned earlier is just east of the outer belt at SR256 and I-70. Very good selection of new stuff, pretty slim on used stuff. I've never been to Black Wing, but hear lots of good things about them too.

Vance's is great! it's the only gun shop run like a butcher shop-take a number and wait 'til you get called. Funny, too. It's a big LEO store in a bad neighborhood (well, sort of a bad neighborhood). All the cops are clustered on one side of the store, and the HighPoint/glockfohtay crowd is on the other side.

It's funny that you use the term "butcher shop"--I remember when Vance's was an IGA grocery store and they sold guns out of a little elevated cage like structure in one corner. My grandmother bought some low quality 22 revolver from them back in the grocery store days. I have that gun in my safe now.

When Vance's went from an IGA, my brother lived about 1/2 mile from the store. He was very distressed at the time, because you could get guns everywhere but where was he going to get good stuffed pork-chops? Now they have put 50 little gun shops under but there still isn't a deacent butcher around. (Despite the name, I don't cut meat!). Ivan

Checked out Vance's briefly, very busy, seemed like a good shop, have never been a fan of take a number anywhere.I didn't want to hold up those who were there to buy as I was just gawking. Also visited Black Wing, nice place, nice people, some fair prices in the long gun room IMO.
