I recently bought a S&W 1911 circa 2004 stainless. Love the gun but think that I should have gone for the 1911sc that is lightweight. Have a great shoulder rig (bianchi scorpio) but think if the barrel was 4.25 it would hide easier. Any comments would be appreciated.

My 1911 Bobtail SC shoots great, but I have to ask S&W for a new sight. The earlier models shipped with a wrong front site post. Mine shoots way, way low -- yes, from a rest, too. Others on 1911 Forum have also discussed this problem, and S&W is sending out new front site posts. Recent Bobtail SC's have been properly fitted before leaving the factory.

I'm toying with what to do, as I may go for an XS Express Big Dot site, anyway. Otherwise, my gun has been flawless. The Scandium scratches far too easily, though. This will be my first, and last, Scandium. It's just way, way too soft.

The SC is a great model 1911 to carry. I have several from 5" to 3". I love my 3" pro for carry, but had no problem carrying my 4.25 SC's. They both shot great and carried great for big cal pistols. Since you are talking about carrying, I see no issues with a mark here or there from normal usage. Fact is, any gun we carry is gonna show some kind of mark to show we do more than look at em.. :D

You are right about the commander being easier to hide, plus at 28oz the weight will make a difference also. They are great 1911's with lifetime warranty. Best of luck and hope it works out.

I have both a 5" and a 4.25"Sc and my advice is for you to do the same! Both outstanding shooters but the Sc carries better. I put the CT rosewood grip on the Sc and I can't imagine a better package for CC here in MN in the winter. :)

The Commander-size/weight gun is good for down to a 1-1/4" belt, if it is a good one. The full-size gun is another matter. Keep what you have for the fun of shooting at the range and buy yourself a nice Commander to walk around with. Best of both worlds. :)
