What's with all the advertising on the forums? Seems you can't watch TV or go on the Internet without some interruption of a flashing commercial to get your attention. I find that most distracting. Try to watch a movie these days and you get "story notes" at the bottom left of the screen. Who needs that? Or, there will be a commercial while the movie is on at the right or anywhere else about something coming up in several days. I wish I knew who to write about all this as it's totally aggravating.

Hosting a website with the amount of traffic we have is not cheap nor is it free. There are many expenses involved that need to be paid, to help offset these costs we use adverting. If you look at other forums like the AR15 and Glock forum you will see our advertising in minimal compared to many others. Be thankful our great 800lb Gorilla is not trying to turn us into a profit only site and is just trying to offset some of his out of pocket expenses for maintaining this site for you to use free of charge.

Seems like THE way of life anymore, its changing right before my eyes. Bought a dvd the other day, had a commerical on it for soft drink or chips or something, before the movie, read an article the other day that young folk would rather have a phone payment than a car payment if they had to chose between. Beats me, back-in-the-day, nothing was more important than my 1955 Chevy and I guess the thought of owning a house is almost forgotten. Rolled and pleated white interior, a 4-barrel under the hood ... nevermind, most want a pocket computer called a phone so they can see how popular their Facebook page is.

I don't get it ... a phone ... give me a break.

Rob, they don't make cars as "want-able" as a '55 Chevy anymore. They are mostly blobs morphed from the same design school. You need an electrical engineering degree to work on them. You can't just re-jet the carb (or swap on a bigger one), add some headers and if you're real ambitious do a cam swap. You need to reprogram the computer chip. Where's the fun and feeling of accomplishment in that?

Nowadays it's all about the latest "app" for their phone. That's "customizing" to them.

I don't know. Every thing and everywhere you go seems to be inundated with commercialism. I can't even go to Photobucket anymore to upload some pics without a little mini movie clip coming up. Who needs that when you're trying to find those photos to upload. It's gotten worse over the past year.

I can understand the cost of maintaining a website although I have no idea what that cost may be. Things weren't like this a year or so ago and I don't mean here...mostly TV and other websites. It's true there are far fewer here than most places. It's not the vendors ad's that bothersome-it's a big block of some ad to the right or something jumping at you or flashing that makes me want to smack the monitor.

Being an "old crow" at nearly 66 now, I don't like change. My favorite chair is in the same place it was 25 years ago. I like it where it's at. My dog don't like change either and I put his food and water bowl in the same place everyday. Well, I suppose there's little I can do about it all but I sure don't have to like it.

BaldEagle-I have an EE degree and I can't work on them anymore. I have a Toyota Corolla and have yet to figure where the spark plugs are! This thing don't even have a voltage regulator!!:D

Advertising exists because....it works. To add insult to injury, there are more scams today than at any time in our history. If you have any money, there's someone looking to scam you out of it. If you have lots of money, there are lots of people doing the same. You're basically on your own. Buyer Beware.

It's a little irritating, especially the ones that just started popping up in the middle of the posts, but I'll put up with them to keep this great site free and up and running. Everything has a price nowadays.

Hmm; guess I'm behind the times. I love those banners and such on the sides of my screen on these forums. I've found several nice websites and companies to do business with from them. Don't tell anyone; I don't want to be the odd-ball here.

Google tracks everywhere you visit. They then tailor the ads to the individual user. Mine are all Brownells and other gun places, one Ford commercial, not alot of variety. Kind of interesting....what are y'all getting?

Brownells, Cramster.com and Ford. Hope that Cramster one is about college, or I just made myself look real bad.

Voltage regulation in the alternator is handled by a circuit in the on-board computer, just like nearly every other car these days. So instead of a 15 dollar part needing replaced when it fries, you get to spend $150 to $250 for a new computer.

That is progress.?

Commercials are everywhere. Printed, digital, mouth to mouth, radio...
And why? Because it works.
Can you change it? No.
Can you live with it? Yes.

We have how many threads about ads on this board? 8? 10?

Stop whining and move on...

I didn't check to see how many threads there was about ads and frankly, I don't care. I'll "whine" all I want-don't read it if you don't like it. It's a free board remember?
