Companies that don't want my business, apparently.

Hey, I placed an order for a red dot sight and mount, from a store called something like visual moon, for around $250. I ordered from them because they were about $20 cheaper than Amazon. I ordered on Friday, input all my CC info including the 3 digit number on the back of the card. "Thanks for your order! We'll get right on it!" Monday morning I get an e-mail that the order is on hold. They want to "validate the credit card transaction" before proceeding. How you ask? They wanted to charge an unspecified and apparently random charge to my card, then have me contact the bank, find out the exact amount charged, then contact them and tell them the exact amount charged. Then they would get right on my order. Never mind, dudes. Cancel my order. Funny how having someone insinuate that I am a criminal lessens my desire to do business with them. Then they had the nerve to send me a survey to find out if I'm, "happy with my transaction". I told them exactly why I would never do business with them. Amazon was a little more expensive, but they have faster shipping.:)

That stinks of a scam. Something isn't right there.

I've bought lots of things off Amazon, mostly books, CD'S and DVD'S and never had any problems.

Never bought much gun related stuff off them though.

never had problems with the big "A" either. it was the other retailer I had problems with.

I've heard of some companies doing this to verify you have an active CC account and they charge a token small amount to make sure it clears.
I went thru something similar when I was setting up a payment transfer between my bank and credit union that I financed a car through. It was just a way to ensure these online "wire transfers" will process correctly.

Yes. many companies do some such. Usually they will place a hold on a small amount, like one dollar. Then they bill the full amount later. Most gas stations around here do it that way. the difference is, they don't make me jump through a bunch of hoops and bring them a note from my mother. They just do it. The fact that these people want me to do a bunch of extra stuff, that nobody else has ever asked for, is why I will not do business with them. If they want to pay me my consulting wage of $250/hour, then I will be happy to do their work for them. But not until.

Something sounds fishy. In addition to canceling my order. I think I would contact my CC Company and stop any activity from said vendor.

Throw in a "customer service" department run by a bunch of foreigners who speak bad English and have no idea (or don't care) how to fix your problem and you're really in for a fun day.
