Has anyone installed a Compensator on a 3rd Generation Auto Pistol? Can it be done? I recently picked up a nice 4506 that had been upgraded for 45 super by Ace Custom 45's. It shoots well but I feel like a compensator would help…and be cool! I am talking with a local gun smith about the project now, he has the gun. We have some ideas but I am curious to hear more. My original quest for a longer threaded barrel proved futile so I am looking at alternative methods.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes been done before..You can use a cone setup to thread the barrel for the comp.

Cool!

Is that one yours? I have seen pictures of the cone type compensators in the Brownell's catalogs but I have never seen one in person. This is my first compensator project. Could you send or post more detailed pictures for me? The gunsmith I am working with is concerned about the bulge at the end of the barrel where it meets the press in bushing. Am I correct to guess that the bulge would be turned down in a lathe to the diameter of the rest of the barrel and the cone would take up the original diameter where the bulge was?

Thanks Michael

Yes the "bulge" will have to be turned down,But the pressed in bushing has to come out and a cone made to suit the dia inside the slide. The front of the slide has to be milled at a 1 degre angle,The cones you can buy are made for a 1911 and would not work on the 4506.It's not hard to do,Just different from a 1911.Your gunsmith just has to make them up himself.I did a few when the 4506 was in production but haven't had anyone ask in a long time.1911 is more popular and there are lots of makers of comps and barrels for them. That gun in the picture is not mine but one for sale here in gunstore. If you need more help just ask:)
