Looking at getting a concealed carry jacket with internal holster as a Xmas gift. I see that there are many brands that offer these Rothco, Cinch, Roper, Undertech, Etc. I have been reviewing these and most have good and bad points. I like the look of the Rothco lightweight but the pistol holding pocket looks cheap and some have stated that their pistol had fallen out as they bent over. I also like the Undertech Phantom but with so many negative reviews for that company makes me hesitant to place an order with them. Any suggestions and comments appreciated.

My CC jacket is a Carhart but have others too but design matters little as my handgun still on my hip at 3:00 . MY wife has a scotte vest . Nice holder of every thing a business person could need but even my wife wears her pistol still .

I had a number of concealed carry vests, including a couple that were lightweight and a couple that were heavier for cooler weather. All high quality, some major brands, some not. No pun intended but as much as I liked the vests overall I never could warm up to them for concealed carry. The concealment was fantastic but the location of the guns, on either side, was too far away and, as I recall, they all were sealed with "Velcro" type material and made that awful ripping sound when you wanted to get in to retrieve the gun. So I just kept my guns on my person, belt or pocket, and that was that.

I live in New England and I like the Berne Echo One. It's a coat, not a light weight jacket.

Here's a link to a video that demonstrates this coat.

I have a nine line jacket, very warm and carries my gun really well. It is owned by veterans.

Thanks so much for the link. Just ordered their lightweight CC jacket. Always happy to buy from a veteran owned business.

That Bernie Echo One sure looks like his whole right leg is the target on the way to pointing forward.

I've tried a couple of the vests with built in pocket/holsters...... for me it seemed like I needed to a "counter weight" to the off side to get it to balance.

FWIW ..... for me...... winter outdoor carry I will go from behind the right hip to a horizontal shoulder rig ......all I have to do is zip down and reach into the
jacket grab the butt and hit the thumb break. 2 extra mags on the off side balance the rig....... and the coat/jacked anchors the whole rig in place.

One thing few people don’t consider is what to do when you are in a restaurant (for example) and have to remove your jacket. I normally go to the restroom and transfer the gun to my pants pocket.

I just wear whatever jacket is appropriate for the weather- they all conceal a handgun in my belt holster just fine. Then if I sit down to eat somewhere and hang my jacket on the back of the chair, my sidearm is still where I left it. Pocket? How are you going to draw from a pocket in a sitting position?

Anyone know of an athletic-style vest that could be worn while riding a bicycle? I'm thinking a hi-vis vest like construction workers wear.

The way one carries is a personal choice. Each of us has his or her reasons justifying our decisions.

Having carried concealed for over 25 years and tried some alternate methods, I find myself most comfortable sticking with the KISS principle: same gun, same place, nearly all the time.

When I have to vary my chosen routine, it is with the same basic gun but a smaller version, concealed in the same place but a little “deeper”.

I carry a FS M&P AIWB ~85% of the time. The variation is a Shield in Thunderwear 15% of the time.

I find no problem concealing or accessing these locations, even one-handed. When I wear a winter coat, I leave it undone in the front and the warm wool shirt under it is my concealing garment. If I have to zip up the coat, mine has the double zipper that unzips from the bottom also. I unzip the bottom about 1/3 the way—which also makes it easier to move/sit—and can access the concealed secured gun easily, even while seated.

I have not found any useful advantage to carrying in a pocket, especially in a coat, jacket or vest. I suppose if I had to stay bundled up really tightly the idea of dropping a short barreled revolver in an outside pocket might seem attractive, but even in Utah winters I have not found this necessary.

I post this opinion only to help those considering coat carry to study it out thoroughly. I think there are many drawbacks. The challenges of waist mounted carry with a coat in belt mounted positions other than AIWB complicate the decision, but it is one more advantage to AIWB for consistent, secure, accessible, simple concealed carry.

I’m not trying to hijack the thread—just pointing out that carry decisions that complicate what you carry and how tend to increase complexity, require more training, and may actually put you at a disadvantage when you need your gun quickly.

Thanks for the replies. Thinking of a Berne Echo One with the adder system.

I have both the Berne coat and the vest. I'm very happy with both. The coat is very heavy, so I only wear it when the temp gets below 20 degrees. Higher than that, the vest is plenty warm, as long as you don't mind your arms exposed.

I purchased inexpensive suede holsters that I attached via Velcro to each one on the weak side for cross-draw, as I felt this was more comfortable for me. I also bought a couple of cheap elastic that I attached via Velcro to the strong side for reloads. I'm very happy with the results.

This exactly.

I'm sitting in a tire shop right now getting a vehicle inspection. It's perfect weather for my western style leather vest which goes just fine with my western boots, blue jeans and hat. That vest is covering a 2 1/2" 686+ in an OWB holster with the gun at about 3:30.

When the weather is colder I can wear a different vest, or a jacket over this vest or if I will be in an out with and without a cover garment, I can either use a tuckable holster and a tucked shirt, or a long sleeve T shirt that looks entirely normal to have untucked.

My preference is to use an OWB holster and then regular, non conspicuous clothing to conceal it.

For the beach where it's hard to carry a .357 in a swim suit, I have a tactical fanny pack. The main problem is that they all look like tactical fanny packs. I partly address that by ironing on an Orca patch. Now I look like a normal tree hugger at the beach, and I only look like an armed tree hugger if you look past the Orca and see the 5.11 fanny pack for what it is.

I am not enamored of concealed carry jackets. First, I would definitely NOT get one that was branded with a brand name like "Cinch"==screams out "Shoot me first!", just like a fanny pack! Secondly, I carry one of two Glocks=A G43 that fits in my Wranglers front pocket and doesn't print or a G27 (converted to 357 Sig) in an IWB. If cold weather, I have a Pendleton blanket coat (reversible) that was made by Kraffs here on the Rez and either sidearm fits in the side pocket. Same with my Columbia parks. Cool weather, a Carhartt flannel shirt or a Pendleton wool shirt suffices. Summertime a golf shirt or loose western shirt suffices with the IWB.
