Well yes I did actually...and came away with the facts of like the poster Below stated in part. Calling attention to yourself..becoming a primary target..losing any element of surprise ..these three alone override any supposed advantage I could imagine..of which I can't imagine any...

All you are missing (perhaps until just now) is the arguing and irritation this topic engenders here. Suffice it to say that there are a significant number of people who agree with your assessment but also a significant number who strenuously disagree. Do a search here for the topic and you will find both sides of the point have been "discussed" at length.

Why would you need any of those things if the presence of your openly carried firearm acted as a deterrent to bad things in the first place?

Almost any benefits of open carry (and whether they are benefits or discredits is open to lengthy and opinionated argument) are benefits to the gun-toting community as a whole, not to the individual.
AFAIK, there is only one possible personal advantage of open carry, which I myself have observed (in another individual), but it is an unusual case, and not ordinarily applicable to the average citizen, or even most LEOs. I remember once seeing an individual working from an armored car, delivering cash to or receiving cash from a store. He was in uniform, his occupation was obvious, and his revolver was in a steel-shanked holster which held the butt of the revolver at about waist level, and quite a few inches (six? more?) from his body. It was clear that if he had practiced, that revolver could be in his hand VERY quickly, probably more quickly than any gun carried concealed. However, if you think about retention, you will realize that while his carry method may have been OK for him, it would not be acceptable for most people.
Hope this answers your question. Most people open carry to make a political statement, or because they want to accustom the populace to open carry, or because they already live in a place where it is not odd, and they don't want to put on another shirt or jacket.

I also find it a much more comfortable method of carry when compared to tossing a gun in my pocket or even inside my waistband.
I think that covers most reasons people open carry.

Regarding armored car guards, around here they carry their handgun in their hand as the other guard carries the money. Sometimes if their load is light they both have their guns in their hands. The third guard stays in the truck.

Not opposed to open carry in certain circumstances however:
Back in 1976 when I became a LEO the Department policy was that when working "plain clothes" or carrying off-duty your sidearm was to remain covered so as "to not unduly alarm the public".
This was taught as part of our basic LE training and department policy. I still adhere to that practice and think others should also.

You're not missing anything. Concealed carry significantly increases your chances of using that darn pocket pistol. I mean, you're desperately hoping you look exactly like an unarmed person so that you'll be targeted, and then you can whip out your concealed carry gun and teach that *** a lesson he'll never forget. Then the mayor will praise your heroics on TV and you'll be the talk of the town.
No, concealed is more advantageous because it means chances are much higher that you'll get to kill someone.
