For summer wear, I had a seamstress sew a few pockets on the right and left side of a few of my shirts and t-shirts. Just put a few lead fishing weights into the pockets and it will hold the shirt down and help prevent printing and wind print. Simple, take then them out to wash and good to go.

I've heard of that before, and have considered it. I wear untucked shirts for my covering garment and have had wind lift up the hem from time to time. Fortunately, I wear IWB so it's not that big of a deal.

Is there any chance you could post some photos so we can see what was done?

Another interesting clothing modification I've read about involved putting a thin length of wire along the front of jackets or button up shirts to prevent it from getting tangled in your hand when going for your gun. I haven't run into that problem, though, so it probably wouldn't be worth it for me.

There's also the sewing of chamois (or some other smooth fabric) to jacket linings where they rub against the gun, which is supposed to prevent wear and tear to your clothing, reduce printing, and, again, preventing your hand from getting tangled in the jacket when drawing. I can see the utility of this, but with my mode of carry and dress it doesn't really offer anything for me.

I'm not sure how useful these techniques are for most people. But if you try it and it works for you that's all that matters.

Don't the wind ever blow down there in Alabama?:D

It got brisky on April 15th and the 27th, but in the middle of summer with 100% humidity you couldn't buy a breeze.

Amen!

besides. shirt pockets with weights doesnt seem like a workable idea....maybe i need a pic of what he means. i mean a breeze would blow open a shirt at the bottom where the gun is or could be exposed....but on the chest pockets i dont see how weights would help.

He's talking about weighting the bottom hems of shirts to prevent them from riding up or blowing open, not putting sinkers in pockets on the chest. If I remember correctly, there is a manufacturer of "tactical" clothing who does this same thing.

I have a jacket like this. I took a leather chamois and sewed it into the inside right of the jacket, and crimped a couple of small sinkers to the bottom of the lining. Total overkill, but I did it when I was young, and everything I read was "right".

I think a good Instant Tailor would work better than weights. It will keep your pants up, your shirts tucked in and even a Sam Browne belt where it needs to be. This includes while driving a car, riding a horse or running. AND they are cheap to purchase.

Not if the purpose of the weights is to keep the hem of an untucked shirt from being lifted up by the wind.

oh i get it.....weve always done it the cheap way and used a roll of pennys in the pocket of a sport coat......not only held it in place better, but allowed it to move out of the way with a slight pivot while drawing.

I wear a t shirt to insulate my skin from the belt buckle and gun (contact dermatitus) I wear an owb holster. I then put a colored t shirt over the gun, then a button down shirt. It always covers my gun and holster, especially when I ride my motorcycle.

Bill Jordan recommended keeping extra ammo in the strong side pocket of a jacket or sport coat to help keep the garment clear during the draw. I used a speed strip that way for several years to good effect when carrying a revolver, but found an extra magazine to be overkill. Sinkers and pennies should work as weight, but a reload does double duty.

After ruining more sport coat linings than I care to remember, I can appreciate the chamois idea. Hammer spurs and ambi safeties both do a number.

Instant taylor??? Suspenders?

Nope, Galls Supply sells an elastic belt that is adjustable. It fits around the waist, over the shirt tails but under the pants at the waist. It works much like velcro between two materials and keeps the shirt well tucked and the pants up as opposed to sagging such a happens when the belly is large and causing the pants to drop under the belly.

Good part is they last for ever and are very cheap.

I carry a fullsized .45 government in the summer with just a covering of a tee shirt.
I don't think you need to weight anything down.
I carry a model28 under a shirt in the summer wearing a 3inch belt and holster---no printing.
Wear it around the house all weekend before going out with it on--you will get used to it.
Dang it all, what gives it away is folks feeling for it ever 5 seconds--it aint goin nowhere.
Doan need no steekin scabbards.
Blessings

I say sew in some more pockets, add some lures and let's go fishing. Just kidding it's whatever works for you and makes you feel comfortable. As for me I don't care if my shirt rides up or not but that's just me.
