Gentlemen,

I need to hide a 1911 in a bookcase. Several years ago there used to be ads for what look to be books, but in reality the pages are cut out to where a handgun would fit. It appears to be an ordinary book on a shelf when in the bookcase.

Does anyone know where such could be obtained?

Thanks in advance,

Try here, they have a smaller size too, I think it's part # 95814.Large Steel Book Safe

They aren't exactly what you are looking for but it's a start. Try googling "book safes".

Home invaders will pull books from a cabinet looking for such and hidden money or safes.

Invest in a small gun safe bolted to the floor. They are cheap.

I am not trying to secure guns, I have two large steel safes, 1,000 pounds each (when empty). What I need is a way to conceal a handgun when at my desk, when I walk from office to office, and from the car to the front door. I need something that won't be noticable, but the gun will be handy.

Sounds like a good idea, but the NRA emblem on the spine gives it away.

I doubt that the bad guys know anything about the NRA but if it tips them off, that's a good thing.

We've always made our own from a suitable book from a yard sale or second hand store. A dictionary, cook book or phone book can be very inconspicuous depending on what room the book is in.

I keep my gun book right out in the open on the coffee table. It's entitled "How to get off welfare and get back to work." I don't think they any thief would touch it...

A brown paper sack always worked for me. :)

Years ago I worked as a mechanic and occasionally did service calls in questionable neighborhoods. In the top of my toolbox I kept a pair of old white cotton work gloves. In one glove was an IJ hammerless revolver with the barrel stuck into the index finger. The cotton gloves had enough give that you could fire the gun with it inside the glove.

I also would occasionally throw the same pair of work gloves on top of the dash of my truck. I doubt it either case was legal then or now, so I'm not recommending it, just mentioning it.

Yea, some folks still actually use paper day planners . . . my wife does. I use my smart phone, however. That's why I like using an "apparent" day planner . . . without all of the actual day planner material. To each his own!
