I have a pair of 39 no dash pistols with consectutive serial numbers. They are unfired in the box. Would it hurt to shoot them a bit? Any ideas on value?

If I had these, I would consider selling them and buying one in shooter condition. No idea on value, but you get to make the BIG decision. Good luck, would love to see a couple pics. I bet they are beauties!

I got them from a friend who has had them for a very long time. I'm mainly in to Ruger sixguns and older Smith N frames, but I always had a soft spot for the 39.

I would have to fire a magazine full through each one, then carefully clean them & put them back in their "proper" box, & dare not sell them individually!!! You have a "potential" Gold Mine...

Do not shoot them!!!! Shooting them will definitely lower their value! I would wipe them down very well to prevent any damage, take great pis of them and put them on GunBroker. The original 39s are turning into real collector items. If you look on there right now, there is a serial number 63xxx that is in the same condition and is already up over $900.

I would put them on GB as a set and put the starting bid at $2000. I would be surprised if the bidding frenzy did not push it close to the $2250. You can buy a lot of shooters for the price you'll get out of these. Or, you could offer the set first for sale or trade to the awesome people here on the forum.

Or, do not shoot them and tuck them away for a future sale. Only problem is, the 39 seems to have really surged in collector value as of late and you never know when a collector "bubble" will pop.

That would be my opinion. Good luck.

Also, I do not shoot my 39 because I am afraid I will break the extractor (nearly impossible to find) and I shoot my 39-2 all the time and LOVE it. Buy a 39-2 shooter and shoot the heck out of it.

They will probably stay in the safe unless someone offers me a swap on something I like better. Not really interested in selling right now, but if the right trade comes along, who knows......

Well, at least you have an idea what the auction level street value is. If you have a wish list of "bucket guns," throw it up for trade in the sale section with the list. You might just be surprised what comes out of the woodwork for that pair of pistols.

How Low are the serial numbers ? (can't make them out). If they are older, lower numbers either keep them or sell them, don't shoot them if they're mint. Under 50,000 just put them away or sell them to a collector, make a nice profit and go buy a shooter 39-2.

Keeping them in current high condition will maintain a higher value .

If you dont care about depreciating them shoot them but shooter grade smith 9mm autos are cheap and plentiful where NIB 39 no dash consec pairs are a rarity....

Saw a 39 no dash at a local gun show here in the Seattle area offered for $650. It was in rather nice shape, good wood and no major scratches or holster wear, but it was not in pristine shape and clearly had been fired. (Just wanted to provide a price point of comparison for you.)

I was really tempted, but was out for a .22 (got a 422 from the guy selling the 39) and passed.

If they are truly unfired, I would not shoot these pistols, period. And unless you were in dire need of money, I wouldn't be in any hurry to sell them.

Unfired long extractor M39s are collectables.
Shooting them even a little would be a big hit on their resale value.
And if you broke one of those long extractors, you would really be hurting.

Those old long extractors don't break as easily as the rumors that have circulated since the revised to the 39-2, might have you believe. I've seen many well shot 39s and pre-39 with the blue wearing off the extractor and the pistol, leading me to believe it still had the original extractor.

Sound advice, they have been cleaned and put to bed. I may entertain some trades at a later date.

What is the serial number range (you don't have to post the exact numbers) of the consecutive set ? ( I can't make it out from the photos).
