Consider Joining the S&W Collectors Association

Here's where our 2017 meeting will be

You must be a member to participate, so now is a great time to join.

Beside S&Ws, I think you'll find Charlotte/Concord, NC is an exciting place to visit.

Welcome Video

See you there,
Rex

Thanks to all the encouragement from of the posters above, I finally downloaded the application and filled it out, and wrote a cover letter telling a little about myself, along with my cell number so that I can be contacted for an interview. i'm afraid that I don't know any local members, and hope that this will be an acceptable form of application. Also of course, attached a money order for the dues. Went out in the mail just an hour ago.

I can hardly wait to hear the results!! I hope to be joining you folks soon.

Best Regards, Les

Welcome aboard, Les. I made a statement about not having a sponser, and my ears are so bad that I was afraid of a phone call. The support ( like Wiregrassguy above) I received was heartwarming.
I would gladly sponser you, but I think I'm in some sort of probation before I'm taught the secret handshake.

Regards,
Bruce

Wow!! Guy and Bruce, thanks so much for your support!!! I feel good about this already!!! I have really enjoyed belonging to the forum for the past year and a half, and had thought as I said that I would have to find someone in person... Then after I found this thread, I realized that I might be able to do it this way.

Well, if "they" still need for me to find a sponsor, I'll get in touch with you fellows!

Thanks again....

Best Regards, Les

Well, Guy, Bruce and Robert... I received an email yesterday that my application had been received, but since I didn't include a sponsor or letter from an FFL, they would be scheduling a phone interview. I hope I can hear!!! Anyway, I am looking forward to doing the interview. I'll keep you guys posted on my progress. Thanks again for your support!!!

By the way, while I was at it I went ahead and filled out and mailed an application and contribution to the S&W Historical Foundation. I don't really know why I never did this before. I had thought about joining the Collectors Association, but didn't know anyone locally.

Best Regards, Les

Les,
I suspect that a quick review of your posts on this site would cover any questions they might have. I need to get that Hysterical thing out of the way myself.

Regards,
Bruce

I too would sponsor you Les. I don't know you other than what I read here but you appear to be a gentleman and truly interested in learning about S&W's. If those aren't the two most important conditions of being a member, I can't think of two more important. ;)

Thank You, James... I am really heartened to hear from folks like you, who I have met here on the forum. Really, until I started reading, and eventually joined, and started posting on the forum, I was much less focused in my aquision of firearms. As old as I am, I am learning every day the subtleties of the Smith and Wesson (within my field of interest, there is too much out there to take it all in)... At least learning about a few of the older hand ejectors, which seem to draw me the most. I'm not totally focused yet, but I can see my interests beginning to narrow the field.

Don't know if that makes much sense, but reading and learning here almost every day for the last year and a half has really been an incredible experience. I've been acquiring firearms since I was a boy, and Smiths since 1970, but I've learned more in the last 18 months or so than in many of the years of independently reading on the subject. As I've said before, this is like graduate school for Smith lovers!

Thanks again, guys, I might need to call on you to be a sponsor if I'm too hard of hearing to pass my telephone interview!!!

Best Regards, Les

Well, I promised to keep everyone posted on my progress, I had my phone interview today, and I feel like everything went OK. I did mention that a number of members had offered to sponsor me if needed. I've got my fingers crossed now!!

Thanks again to all of the great folks who are on the forum and in the S&WCA,...the OP for starting this thread, which looks like it encouraged several people besides myself to join, and to all of the posters who encouraged us to "endeavor to persevere".

Best Regards, Les

In like Flynn !
You are an asset to the community Les. Did you mention you have a following who are building guns based on your posts ?
I, for one, have always looked forward to your posts.
Regards,
Bruce

Thanks, Bruce, that means a lot to me...I did mention that I had been participating on the forum for about a year and a half, and gave my screen name, and a brief biography of my involvement with Smiths. I think that everything went pretty well. I was worried I wouldn't be able to hear. I'll bet that is a problem for a lot of us old time shooters!!! I've been a firearms instructor since 1977, so next year will mark 40 years of gunfire. And I'm trying to remember, but I do t think we used hearing protection as religiously back then as nowadays. Plus, when I was in the Navy, being on deck (of a Deatroyer) with 5" guns firing, and no ears on. Hold my hands over my ears. Geeze. Anyway, I sure appreciate the support of you and others on the forum, and in the S&WCA.

Best Regards, Les

Looks like the Association is sponsoring another "Meeting" in New Holland PA this coming weekend. Unlike the previous meeting, this one will be held at the LGS, The Sportsman's Shop, which features an indoor range. Does anyone know if the opportunity to join will be available at the meeting? Same format as before, anyone can buy, but only members can offer for sale items?

Well, I received my membership materials in the mail today, and I just want to reach out to all of the members who gave me support and encouragement when I first decided to apply.

For anyone reading this who has not yet joined, perhaps because you don't personally know a member to sponsor you, reread the above posts, and go to the instructions here on the forum, and take the plunge. I'm already deep into the "Journal"s, that came with my membership package...looks to be some really great material there.

Anyway... Thanks again, fellows, and you don't know how much it meant to me to be welcomed and encouraged in joining!!

Best Regards, Les
