I am considering the purchase of a 627 snub. I definitely like the idea of 8 rounds, and prefer wheel guns. It would be used for range shooting and home defense. I rarely carry, but have a Ruger LCR which I use. The price, at least from what I am observing, seems to have gone up. Thoughts please.....thanks.

I have a 627 Pro with the 4" barrel and it is a fun gun to shoot. I don't know how bad the 627 snub kicks with full bore 357 rounds, but my 4" Pro is pretty easy on the hand and wrist even with bad boy ammo.

I had one for a little while earlier this year. BEAUTIFUL gun in every way. That said, maybe it was because I already had a 5", 627 PC but I just never really fell in love with the snubbie version. I found it too big for carry and two short for accurate range work. I do love the 627/327 revolvers but I would encourage you to look at the 4" or 5" version for your stated needs.

My two 627 snubs were the finest shooting revolvers I have ever owned. Like them better than the 5" barrel 627.

Then the 627's gave their crown up to my more recently acquired 327 TRR8 which shoots so well I bought another in the form of an M&P R8 the same week. But for a snub, the 627 is a wonder. It does fine work at 25 yards, had good action out of the box, and 8 shots are nice. I don't believe it is too big for carry - but I do drop to an L frame 586 for IWB.

Here's my first one, followed by the second which is flanked by the TRR8 and 586 L-Comp.

I'm stuck between the 586 L Comp and 627 PC snub right now.

For EDC this is the model that may fit the need. 21oz Feels just as light as my M&P Shield 9mm. Same round count.

I carry this in a BlackHillsLeather.com IWB holster.

Love my 627 (and 629). Recoil is very manageable with full power defense loads. Made a Kydex holster to carry at 2 o'clock with no problems at all. Not sure I want to let off full power magnum loads in the house if I have to though. 45, and 44 special get the call for house duty.

Here's the 629 in the holster, but obviously the 627 fits the same.

I like snubs, and have several for no other reason. If your purchasing from that standpoint more power to you. However for your stated use I only see disadvantages to the shorter barrel. Why not a 4-6" gun? Better ballistics, accuracy, site radius. Who cares about the length/weight on a nightstand or range day? I do like the 8 shot guns and think the 627 is sweet so I wouldn't say no, but i'd also be looking a the r8 tacticool and 4" versions.

A short-barreled 627 or 327 (scandium/titanium) would be suitable for carry, but a 4" or longer barrel would be better for the OP's stated use, home defense and range.

I agree that the 5" TRR8 is a delight to shoot - quick handling and very accurate. It is a PC product, and mine has a 9.5# DA trigger pull. At just under 36 oz, recoil is not a problem.

I also picked up an used 627 PRO, which has a 4" barrel. It too is a very nice shooter, and much less expensive, new or used, than a TRR8 or 327.

It's not hard to carry a 3" or shorter N-frame in an IWB holster and good belt, for concealment. I've carried a 4" IWB, but it's a lot more comfortable in an OWB holster. A TRR8 will fit any N-frame holster for 5" or longer, if you omit the optional rails.

I just ordered one and should be here today at the FFL. I can't pick it up until Monday though since the Pistol permit office is closed tomorrow for Veteran's day. Can't wait to get in home.

The 327 is a great snubby! I changed the grips immediately to the VZ tactical diamond, short extended cylinder release and a cylinder and slide rear sight. It is a heavy gun but absorbs full power loads pretty well, just shot a box of 50 yesterday 158gr. The short barrel definitely hurts the accuracy when compared to my TRR8 which is a tack driver in every way. I carry it in an OWB kydex under a coat or button down shirt year round without any trouble. The only real problem I run into is carrying extra moon clips in a manner that ensures they won't get bent or damaged. The holder from revolver supply is excellent except it is really noticeable and leaves quite the bulge. I am going to try speed beez loaders and then simply rugged holder for the moons. I would like to get the 4" version for my next addition to the 8 cracker collection. Have fun with your wheel-gun!!

What exactly IS "accurate for range work?"

By definition a revolver with a sub-2" barrel isn't expected to deliver sub-MOA groups at 500 meters, and one would expect that any handgun capable of putting all EIGHT shots into a fist size POA at 25 feet would be perfectly suitable for defensive use. So WHY make a statement about how a revolver is "too short for accurate range work" Chances are someone who knows how to hold and shoot will step onto said range and SHOW YOU just how accurate a sub-3" barrel .357 Magnum really is...it's all about the eyes and the ability to hold and squeeze...so why denigrate the gun? Unless you have a personal agenda?

Seems a little harsh. Doubt any one has a "personal agenda" about snubs vs longer revolvers. Or is there a closet long barrel revolvers only club I'm unaware of?

Seriously great shooters are great with pretty much anything, but I'll bet your hypothetical I'll SHOW YOU shooter would do even better with a bigger gun. Yes snubs are more accurate than many folks think. Ce' la Vie. I just hope the OP posts a pic if/when he decides, cuz that's always fun. And i hope he/she gets whatever gives him the most joy, cuz lets face it that's 90%+ of gun ownership

Have the 627 PC with the 3" barrel and removable compensator. Nice gun, but I prefer the 686 P seven shot.

Really??
The thread asked for opinions and I gave mine as unbiased as I have for the last 2000+ times I've posted over the past 13 years.
p.s. You are on the wrong forum if attacking folks is your standard tone of conversation.
