After talking with a Hornady rep, and viewing the ballistic results from the Hornady Critical Duty 135gr 9mm +P,
I am considering replacing my 4506 or 4006 as my primary home defense gun.
While the 4506 can hold 8+1 45acp, and the 4006 holds 11+1 40S&W, either 9mm will hold 15+1.
In light of many home invasion robberies I have read about with multiple assailants,
I am now opting towards larger magazine capacity.
Another factor in this equation is that the recoil and muzzle flip will be lessened and subsequent shot sight acquisition will be quicker.
What are your thought on this, and which gun would you recommend if I go this route? The 5906 or the 659? I have both.

Oh, by the way, I also have a 12 gauge loaded and nearby.

Thanks in advance for any input and suggestions.

Given the abundance of solid defensive loadings in 9mm, I'd say your decision isn't a bad one especially if you're going for the added magazine capacity this caliber gives you.

Sorry, I lack experience with the 5906 or 659 so I can't really recommend one over the other. My only "nines" were the BHP and the Glock 19.

Many questions and considerations come to mind.

Your home defense plan? Hole up in the bedroom/safe room? A 12 ga is ideal.

Do you carry during the day in case of daytime invasions?

Does your wife shoot your guns or can she? What does she like?

Don't over think things. Go with what you shoot the best. Chances are either gun will be more than enough. If not learn to reload quickly.

Many generations of men and women have relied on a 5 or 6 shot revolver for home defense. And many couples are both armed.

That being said, it never hurts to be over prepared. But much depends on how you will use your chosen gun to defend yourself.

This question is also in the Auto pistol sub forum, and I gave the answer that I think is ... as good as it will get.

Yes. I added it there after not getting any responses here.
Sorry for the duplication, and thank to those who did respond here.

Don't forget about familiarity.
If you're used to the 4506 that's the protocol you will follow at go time.
This may bite you when it counts
