Anyone have any opinions (from using them) on the Glock 19? Yes, I know I signed in on the S&W forum...:). There is a vast amount of knowledge and experience here, and I'd like to tap into a little of it. Any points of interest and why you like or dislike 1st gen thru 4th gen. would be helpful. Thanks all.....Sprefix

The G19 is the gun I want so much to love but just can't stand that fat/flat grip. When she bought her M&P9c, I loved it so much I bought a 40c. I regret nothing. I have heard that the very initial 4th gen guns had too much spring for 9mm's and too weak a spring for .40SW but all that has been corrected. I prefer my 2nd gen 17 because Glock finger grooves annoy me. I'm hoping the 5th gen guns can swap out the front as well as the back of the grip.

I was never a 9 fan, preferring a bigger bore. But, my dept. transitioned from 586 to G17 in the early 90's. (Bought my 586 from the City!). I wanted an off-duty gun similar (but smaller) than my duty gun and got a G19. I really became to like that gun. Plenty of capacity and with +p+ hydrashoks it was a cannon. I traded that for a G23 when we converted to G22 a few years later. If I ever get another 9, it will be a G19.

JMHO but the 19 is the best and only Glock to have.

I do not care for Glocks but do have a 19, which I changed the trigger spring and disconecter(easy) to give it a real trigger pull and not a staple gun feel. It is a good gun or as folks who are afraid to like them a "tool":)

Had one of these for some time. Carried it quite a bit and felt confident in its capabilities. I've got nicer pistols, and one's that I've liked better for one reason or another, BUT that Glock was a great all around pistola, and I wouldn't hesitate to have another, if the need presented itself.

I have a Gen3 with adj. night sites and lasermax. I put in a lighter trigger, extended slide release and mag release. I need to do some shaping on the mag release as it is a little too much.

The pistol has never failed to fire and I would trust it to defend myself. It is kinda ugly, but works. I think of it as a hammer.

I've had a buncha Glocks, and am looking for another 19 (no shootable 9mm in the stable right now). They will do what you need them to. As far as the grip goes, on the Gen 2 models I always put one of those Hogue grip sleeves on, it fattens the grip a little and gives it a palm swell.

The Glock 19 is an excellent choice. I've tried everything and haven't found a carry gun that I like better.

Finger grooves are easily removed with a file. You can remove them completely or just take a little off. Very easy and it will look like a factory job.

Ain't the Prettiest

Glock's model 17 and 19 are the best of the 9mm service pistols. Simple construction, easy to repair, full capacity 17 magazines work well in the more compact 19. Reasonably accurate, too.
If your hand fits then its GTG.

Thanks all. I'm not determined either way, but the 4th Gen seems like the ticket for the purpose. Night sights, 3.5lb dis-connector, and a lightning strike titanium-nitride firing pin safety are all necessities IMO. I knew I could count on the knowledge here............:)

You won't be disappointed. They aren't pretty but very reliable. The 19 is just the right size for ccw.

Very true. The Glock 19's are workhorses. I've had Glocks in 9,40,10mm,and 45,but the 19 is what I always came back to.
If possible I would like to suggest you take your time and look around for a 2nd Gen G19. Unless you are adamant about having a light rail on your pistol, these,IMO,are Glocks best guns.

I have three 2nd Gen 19's. I've had a third gen but found the one size fits nobody finger grooves to ba an aggravation.
You can always remove them or have it done professionally. There are many Glocksmiths who do this, but to me it wasn't worth the trouble or expense.
If not that,at least try to find an earlier production 3rd gen. gun,and you won't be gambling with many of the problems that Glocks have been experiencing lately.
My 2nd Gens are here to stay, but others can still be found for sale.

The Barvairian Brick. I bought the gen 4 G-19 and love it. It's my carry gun of choice. I trust this pistol with my life.

Can't go wrong with a G19. I have two G17s a G19 and a G26. I use all but the Gen II G17 for duty (its my range Glock). Super Super reliable, very easy to maintain and G17 mags will work in it. Plenty of holsters and mag pouches available and it will eat just about any ammo you feed it. It's ready to go out of the box with no "break in period." I like em!

The following is just my opinion. I've owned and enjoyed using a 17L, 21 and 22. They have all been very fine pistols in every respect. If you want a less than full-size pistol for CC/HD, etc., the 19 will be a fine choice. Given that it is chambered in 9mm, it will be a pistol you can afford to take to the range and shoot frequently. I like the 4th Gen. Glocks.

I agree. I have the G32, which is the same size only chambered for the .357 SIG round.

I also have the G31 (full size) & G33 (sub compact) and the G32 is like the story of Goldilock's & the Three Bears. It's just right and is one of those guns that I'll never part with.....
