Consorting with the enemy (hey, its better than no consorting at all!) S&W herecy!

I had a nice Colt Commando with original plastic grips that I got for a song ($275 out the door) that had a nice reblue done but lots of pitting I sold for $800. Came with a marked up brown colt python box (no foam insert) labeled for a 4” blue model.

I thought about selling that box on ebay but decided I was gonna fill that box with a Python.

Was about to buy a new one when my FFL calls with a 99% early 80s blue 4” Python. I know these are going for a pretty penny so said how much expecting something north of $2500
He came up with $1600 out the door! DEAL!

I had to go to the bank on that one and drained my savings a bit but for the price of a new one I got an original and couldn’t pass it up.

Sounds like we are all guilty of this sin. The last gun I purchased was one of the new pythons. Couldn’t resist it at $800 and the trigger is starting to grow on me. But back to old habits tomorrow when I’ll be doing the paperwork on a Mass. State Police 3” 65-2 I found on Saturday!

The Colt versus S&W has always been a thing for 150 years.

It is interesting depending on your perspective. Just like Cadillac and Buick versus Chevrolet.

From my grandfather and father’s perspective; Colt was the premium brand like Cadillac and Buick.

While I'm primarily a S&W guy, I do like Colts too. (y)

My dad was former FBI and excellent marksman/competitor- he was a Colt man. Back in the bullseye days he used an Officers Model match and would always recommend a Colt back in the 60's for people going to Vietnam. I have always prefered Smiths- to me a tuned Smith beats a Python every day but that's personal preference. In my wheelgun LE days I always carried a Smith- Mod 66 out of the Academy, then a 686 and finally the best of all a 4" Mod 25 in .45LC. Then I changed to a Sig P220 for the last 10 years of my tenure. I always shot Expert and wish I could have shot against my dad" just once"- I still think his spirit comes with me when I shoot wheelguns at the range on Black B21 targets!

The 65-2 is one of my favorites, you are going to like shooting that one.

Every once in awhile, I get a little burned out on Smiths and step out myself. My Kimber K6XS is a handy, light, smooth shooting little EDC, and I like having a full six rounds. My Chiappa Rhino is actually a very accurate and smooth shooting .357. My Charter Arms is the only game in town for a .45 Colt snubby, especially that lightweight. My 3 Screw Blackhawk .357...well...That's just a classic, amazing revolver in it's own right.

I myself am sometimes tempted by various Colts, but I'm always scared away by the lack of parts, service, ease of casual gunsmithing or availability of skilled smiths for them.

There are too many guns out there to not stray once in awhile, even if we always come back.

I’ve sold most of my Colts but have a few I like too much to get rid of.
One is a New Service .45 ACP, another is a .32 Officers Model with some
interesting target additions and there’s a very nice early Police Positive .32.
Can’t have too many .32’s…

Regards,

If we're gonna consort with the enemy, I have quite a fondness for the old Ruger "Six" Series DA Revolvers as well.
I believe the worst mistake Ruger ever made was to discontinue these fine revolvers.
