Just making sure I can do this.

I can't find any 40 S&W ammo but plenty of 9mm.

Can I simply swap the 40c barrel to a 9c factory barrel and they get some 9mm mags and I would be good to go?

I did that just this past November through January. First got the dies, then the barrel, magazines, mold (had lots of cases collected over the years). This was a 40FS -> 9FS.

Fit, action and shooting went smoothly and the 120g 4.2g Unique loaded 9mm @ 1150 fps shoots just like my "soft" loads of 180g with 3.0g Clays @ 760 fps. The good thing is I can always go back to my 1000 fps 180g 40 S&W loads for some harder hitting bullets.

Many here will likely say to just use a factory 9mm barrel in the 40 slide.

In my opinion, the better choice is to get an actual 40>9 "conversion" barrel made by someone like Storm Lake, as this takes care of the breech size difference and potential lock-up problems. With the barrel and magazines, you're good to go.

I bought a 9mm factory barrel for my M&P40, along with some magazines. The gun shoots reliably, accurately, and consistently. I can see no reason to buy an after-market barrel, so far.

m&p 40 to 9mm

does the 9mm barrel shot to the same point of aim as the 40S&W?

I have fired over 9000 rounds of 9mm out of my M&P40 using factory 9mm barrel and mags. No problems at all when using the 9mm mags. Sometimes the last round wouldn't feed when using .40 cal mags. Point of impact at 50ft is indistinguishable between the two calibers. I'm not sure how much better the twice the price barrel would be compared to that.

So, no extraction problems using just a conversion barrel and 9mm mags? I know that Glocks can have reliability issues if you don't swap out the extractor, also.

I have put a lone wolf barrel, 11 pd spring, glock 19 mag in a glock 22 since I had access to 158 gr fiocchi suh sonics and with the liberty mystic on it is almost "TV" quite. No problems in feeding, extraction, ejection but the lone wolf barrel is the same dimensions as the 40 cal barrel. The threaded bbl was only about 120$ and works great. Some people would say not to use the 9 in the 40 due to difference in size of breech face and possibility of hitting the ejector when removing a live round?? Be Safe,

I have had pretty good luck at WM last 2-3 weeks for 9mm, 40SW, and 45acp. Timing is key at WM. As to orig post, I have had no issues using factory 9mm barrel and mags for my 40FS.
