Cool Hand Luke

One great movie....

CHL was one great movie. I'm sure there are other fine actors that could do the 'captain' role, but Strother Martin did it perfectly. 'What we have here..." is one of the great lines in movies. That and the egg eating stunt were the parts people remember most about it, along with the car wash.

I don't like prison movies. I haven't seen the Green Mile or the Shawshank Redemption and avoid every prison movie. Gives me the heebee jeegees!! I've always tried to be honest because real prison would kill me.

A very cool movie and one of my favorites of all time also.
Newman was just cool period. Kennedy was his usual stellar
"big bad guy but with a heart" and Strother Martin although
not a big part in the movie, made his mark.
They need to round up all the so called "protestors" in
Ferguson MO. and send them to spend a week or two on
a southern Chain Gang.

Actor Wayne Rogers is really the picture of rehabilitation. He's on a southern chain gang in his youth, eventually becomes a doctor working a MASH unit in Korea, and ends up an expert on the stock market on FOX NEWS. Amazing!

Only one thing wrong with that statement--Korea was before his term in prison. :D

3) White Heat. James Cagney.
4) Birdman of Alcatraz. Burt Lancaster, Karl Malden, Telly Savaslas Len Lesser and
5) Escape From Alcatraz. Clint Eastwood,
6) Alcatraz: The whole Shocking Story. Telly Savalas.

War time PW escape movies:

3) The Wooden Horse. Leo Genn.
4) Bridge Over the River Kwai. Hayakawa, Holden, Guiness etc.

If they brought those old prison farms back you wouldn't see near as much crime.

Actually, here in Texas they still have chain gangs. You also have at least four officers on horseback-per chain gang set--and those guys you dont want to mess around with.
