I was looking for this one when I posted the thread with my wife on the cannon (see avatar)

This is one of the coastal guns at Ft Moultrie, SC. overlooking the inter-coastal waterway across from Ft Sumter

Surface Rust and mild pitting ...

Would this drop it to the 80-85% condition category and what would that do to the retail value? Do you have a picture of the bore?

I can't seem to find that particular model in the S&W section either.. is it an early Colt?

What's the matter with you 29?...you should have had your wife working on the pitting while she was out there. A little Simichrome or Fitz and it would be done in no time.

Neat cannon and some cool pics.

Nah she was too busy sightseeing. Although I think this is where she got her liking for big guns.

Edgar Allen Poe served at Fort Moultrie in the 1820's. Sullivan's Island was the setting for his story, "The Gold Bug".

Osceola, the Seminole chief, died there while he was a prisoner in the 1830's.

Jerry thanks for correcting me on my spelling. Sullivan's Island is just a cool place. I have spent hours beachcombing in front of the Fort, and not had to hassle with tourists. If I could ever swing it, SC is at the top of my list for places to move.

Curtis, Moultrie is a pretty interesting place as is most of the SC low country. Good food, black magic, and eccentric folks like you read about in novels.

Two good takes on the low country and it's characters are by Roger Pinkney, "The Right Side of the River" and "Seventh Son on Sacred Ground". He's funny and I can tell you a lot of the folks he describes aren't contrived...

29,
Nice pics...you're a LONG way from NWA!!

Coming up to KC this spring/summer? We can do some shooting...I get to Joplin a fair amount myself (Karli's folks live there)

Great picture. Looks like you would have to touch it off at just the right time to hit the BGs ship. Appears a bit heavy to move around!

I doubt they had to move it as much as pivot it (adjust the angle of azimuth) and tilt it up or down (adjust the angle of elevation).

Jacks right, they have a carriage that I didnt get pics of that allows them to pivot and runners for the recoil.
