Just came over the news a few minutes ago. Two San Antonio cops were just shot today on the campus of San Antonio College, both reported in serious condition. Two suspects are in custody. Information suggests the cops were targeted. Should be interesting when the details come in.

Austin news just reported one was shot in the head and the other in the torso. Both listed as in critical condition. No details on the circumstances. My thoughts and prayers are with them and the families.

Update: One suspect is headed to his first autopsy.

Prayers for the two......

Prayers for the two policemen that were wounded, but prayers for every officer out there in this crazy world of 'Which do you prefer, getting shot and maybe killed or fired and maybe sued." Those two options seem to carry far more weight than any other.

The other day there was a vid of a policeman who immediately shot a man when he was exiting the vehicle with his wallet in his hand. They said that the officer had a nervous breakdown after he found out it was just his wallet. I disagree with that. I think he had already HAD a nervous breakdown from trying to deal with this confused mess where nothing you do is right.

On the 10 O'Clock news, it's reported two officers were patrolling the campus area in their squad car. They apparently saw two suspicious persons. They pulled over near the two suspects, and as the officers were leaving the car, one of the suspects drew a handgun and opened fire. One officer was hit in the head (he is not expected to live), the other was hit in the chin, but returned fire, hitting the armed suspect (who later died). The other suspect was apprehended shortly after the shooting. The wounded officer is described as being in serious condition, but is expected to survive. There should be more information tomorrow. Both officers were experienced veterans, and both had vests. But that didn't help in this situation.

There was a cryptic comment in this morning's news conference with Chief McManus that the shooter may have shot himself in the head after being shot in the buttocks by Officer Cavasos. No ID given on either of the two suspects, except one (not the shooter) had outstanding warrants, and did not participate in the shooting.

As a result of his injuries Officer Miguel Moreno passed away today. We all should be deeply saddened by this tragedy. RIP Officer Moreno.

The shooter did shoot himself in the head. His name was given on the 6 O'Clock news. Anglo, 34 YO, and he apparently had a lengthy criminal record. No explanations yet given. The accomplice (if indeed he is an accomplice) has been in police custody since yesterday PM. All that was said in the news conference with the police chief this morning was that he didn't do any shooting, so he may not be guilty of anything. But he did have some outstanding warrants. The chief said that there was video footage of what happened, but it would not be released to the public. Probably from nearby surveillance cameras.

RIP officer Moreno. You are now a member of Heavens police department.

Rest in Peace officer Moreno. Sad to also say he will now be listed to the growing list of names on the Officer Down, site.:(

BTW, just heard earlier this week (sorry-off topic some) that the dirtbag who killed a friend of mine in Dec 99 (officer Daniel Nagle) was or will soon-be executed for this crime.
