The laDIES of my gym, have requested for me-a batch off dessert cornbread. Ive never heard of it that way let alone made it. Yesterday, I bought some "real" Maple syrup, 4lb sugar-and a box of brown sugar.

I need any and all details please. How much to use for an 8x8 pan of it--etc.

Never heard of such nonsense. Sounds to like some kind of Un American propaganda. Cornbread is made with egg, cornmeal and milk. :p:D Larry

Ringo save the syrup for other baking and the brown sugar for baked beans. Here you go--

Golden Sweet Cornbread Recipe - Allrecipes.com

My Mom made it once in a while, so have I.

Growing up next to a large Army base where GI's brought home German brides that made it sweet. Locally it was called it German Cornbread.

And my old time uncle used to eat cornbread in milk. I have too. Prefer it with beans and ham or honey.

My wife makes something called Cornbread Pudding, which is a dessert thing. Not sure what she puts into it, I know it contains "Jiffy" cornbread mix, canned kernel corn and some kind of instant pudding, and it is semi-soft when served. Pretty good.

To my way of thinkin' Shouldazagged really nailed it. Cornbread is NOT dessert. It is bread to side with the main part of the meal. Beans and rice, Stew, Smothered steak, hell I even have it sometimes with bacon and eggs and fries for breakfast. I'd no sooner have cornbread for dessert than I'd have German chocolate cake for the main course.

I used my mother's scratch recipe for years and bake it in the same black iron skillet that she and used and that my dad's mother had used before that. One visit to relatives many years ago my SIL served her corn bread with beans and rice and it tasted exactly line my mother's recipe. She use Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix. I was blown away. Just add milk and you're all set.

If you want to dress it up a bit and have Mexican cornbread you can put in some green chilies and creamed corn and that will make you reach across the table and slap you're mother right in the face.

Carl, I do believe that those ladies from your gym are messin' wit' yas! ;)
