Cougar Kills Oregon Woman. Discuss Cougar Guns

I gut shot one two months ago with my kitchen drawer Ruger Security Six loaded with Hornady self defense ammo. The cat was thirty yards out from my kitchen window. He took off thru the woods and I lost track of him. Never saw cat again.
Never saw it again? That’s a good thing :)

I am unable to express my opinion of many of your posts here, but this is one time I really wish that I could.

Siemel was a prize-winning wrestler as well as a bold hunter who took immense risks to kill savage cats at very close range.

In doing so, he was often protecting livestock that were being eaten by the jaguars. In every case, his life was at great risk.

I wish that I could comment on people who keep large, aggressive dogs to boost their masculine image. That troubles me more than a man who goes into tall grass to face a jaguar at arm's length.

If you're going to spout this PETA type stuff, please get Pam Anderson over here to do it and post pics of herself. She's prettier than your macho mutt in that avatar.

Well said. Couldn't agree more.

I was a logger full time between jobs and part time when I had a full time job. When cutting alone I always kept my chainsaw warmed up and gassed up and so sharp you could shave with it. There’s no second chance with big cats lucky guy and his family. Nothing on this planet scares me not even bears but cats are so sneaky. I taught my kids to be alert in the woods. Use your sight, listen for sounds, movement, smell.

Seen a catamount( vt ) cross the road near my camp one night. The next morning it was above my camp on the ridge growling. I was using the privy as my son gassed up the bikes. I heard the cat and told the kid to grab my 357 Snubby, I came out and we never seen nor heard the cat again.

I spotted big cat tracks in the snow about 35 years ago in the higher elevations were no one ever goes. I warned everyone around me to be alert.

Fortunately, the forefathers in the Ozarks had the wherewithal a couple of generations ago to kill off all the cougars in our region so we don't have to worry about that problem.

Same in Tennessee...BUT now cougars are showing up in Tennessee again & the DNR had to finally admit they were back in the state. DNR still won't commit to saying there is a breeding population but there is lot's of evidence to support that there is.

Ah, that started out as a 520...I wanted a fixed sighted 44Spl/44Mag.
Just a handy and steady revolver for rough country use.

.

Very nice ....... in E. Tn I usually carry a Speed Six w/.38+P in it...sometimes a 29-5 (4inch) with .44 special....just don't see the need for magnums. When I'm in Colorado I carry the 29-5 with mags.

we occassionally get a cougar around here, besides coyote they are the only non human threat around here, so i'm comfy carrying my 15-4.

WD, Did you know Sasha personally?

No. Did you?

I never knew Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln personally, but my opinion is that they were great men.

I never knew or met Adolf Hitler or Joseph Stalin, either, but my opinion is that they were monsters in human form.

I don't believe it's a prerequisite to have met or known someone personally to form an opinion of them, their actions, or their lifestyle, if they're a public persona...dead or alive. If that were the case, there are thousands of accredited historians and biographers who would be out of a job, and who knows how many millions of books that would have never been published.

You've never met me and wouldn't know me if I was standing in the room with you right now. But I've got ten bucks says you've formed an opinion or impression of me.

I find defaming the dead in poor taste all the way around. But, that's just me.

No one...especially not me...would deny you your opinion.

You've read mine.

:rolleyes: Why waste ten bucks .... your multiple posts made recently, and in the past, show absolutely no regard to humans, and seem to come directly from the PETA handbook ... all in all not worth .02 cents IMO.

you know, if a big cat is as smart as my drifter, a gun would do you no good.
before she exterminated the local bunnies, she had a fondness for a rabbit meal.

Wonder if your Drifter & my Sam related? Cats of all sizes are pretty good predators! ;)
