Hi all could I be over reacting got my new 15-22 sport last night and was looking at the bolt and noticed a mark on the side of the bolt Could this be a problem
Well that all depends on what mark it is?
The picture you attached shows nothing so it's pretty hard to gauge what mark it is?
My 15-22 bolt has a mark (on the side you can see when the bolt is closed) that looks like this < - - just above the extractor, it could just be a scratch, but it looks like an arrow and two lines. It does not impede the bolt any and is just on the surface so it doesn't effect the integrity of the bolt.
Without actually seeing the 'mark' on the bolt, I cannot tell ya.
However there is only one way to find out....Buy a brick of ammo and blast it all in as fast a time as possible...if the rifle sets on fire and then explodes, then you may have a problem, otherwise it could just be a manufacturing scratch and i would not worry about it.
A clearer picture of the mark could help us determine if you could have a problem or not.
If you are talking about that black line that is the Extractor, a device that snags the rim of the case and pulls it from the chamber. If you are referring to something else I cannot see it either.
No, not silly at all.
By the looks of it is seems like the mark is recessed into the bolt so it wont cause any scraping along the inside of the upper, so i would not worry about it. After you have shot a few rounds down have a look inside the upper where the bolt cycles and see if it is causing any scratches or is snagging the bolt. It looks to me from that pic, that the mark is not going to do anything.
Get down the range and enjoy
Don't worry. Mine has the same. Like an arrow head shape stamped into it. Mines been shooting nice and reliable. Well since I changed the extractor to a volsquarten one anyway. I did wonder what it was at first. Nice to see others have it. Just get on and shoot and enjoy
