What is the origin of the terms "plain clothes" or modified" Magnas? I can't find them in any of S&W's literature. Were they coined by collectors? Just curious?

Dang Bill!...We were hoping you would know...The earliest example I personally know of are those on my 3 1/2" Model of 1950 .44 Target originally shipped in 1953, but I believe these, although numbered to the gun, were modified after leaving the factory...The term itself is one I first became aware of after joining this forum......Ben

This picture shows the LDC. I should letter the gun, but don't have the energy to prove or disprove whether it is or isn't a service gun.

I've only heard legends and folklore, not seen any documentation on the term.
