Count me in as another upset Midway customer

If you only knew how much Midway ACTUALLY pays to ship something, you all would be upset.

Shipping is a money maker. Period.

If Midway had shipping policies like Amazon, they'd be ten times the company.

That's all I'm saying.

So, tell us, how much does Midway actually pay for shipping? I'll bet it's the same as what they charge us.

Bought anything from Amazon lately? They're far more complicated than Midway. You'll see a product that's listed for $x.xx and free shipping if your order is $35 or more. The part they hide is that the $35 has to be all from the same shipper. I tried the other day to qualify for free shipping and it actually cost me more.

No, Amazon's shipping is far more convoluted.

AMAZON SEEMS TO BE A UP AND COMING FIREARMS AND EQUIPMENT SELLER WITH BEST PRICES AND CHEAP SHIPPING BELIEVE IT OR NOT.

Regarding Midway, they have some .22LR that has a status of "OVERDUE", as opposed to IN STOCK or BACKORDERED. Has anyone experienced backordering from them on an OVERDUE item and had it come in fairly quickly, like within a few weeks?
Ed

I ordered a RCBS lead melting furnace from Midway on sale. It was due out, than over due for almost exactly two weeks before it came in. I have been waiting for almost three weeks for overdue 22LR ammo to come in. Who knows how long it will be overdue? Months maybe.

Jack, I gave you a like on this post but I have to comment also. To me, it seems that there are a lot of people who mail order stuff that they can get locally because they can save some money on the price. Help keep your LGS in business have them order it for you. I'll bet the price will work out the same in the end. Give it a try it couldn't hurt.

My LGS is about the size of a large broom closet. I live in a small town and it is over 50 miles to the nearest burg that even has more than one small gun store. If you want anything, or even a selection you need to either order online or from someones catalog.

OK, Please provide some verification of what it actually costs to ship products. Heck, not just from Midway but anyone??

What does it cost you to go to the UPS store and ship something???? I use a lot of USPS Flat rate, small, med, large= rounded off $5, $11, $15. That's with ME packing it.

Shipping is not just the UPS. FedEX or USPS actual cost. Have you ever been in a massive warehouse with thousands of items and see what is involved from the time someone places an order and it gets processed, handled, billed , boxed, shipped etc etc.???

So once again, show me the Companies that have the inventory that Midway has and what it costs to ship from those companies and how long it take to get them?

There's an aspect here that I don't think many realize. Midway USA does not have everything on their website in a giant warehouse. Sure, they have a lot of it and have a large distribution activity as well. But, many of their items are drop shipped from the manufacturer. This just adds to the complication of shipping. Even if Midway doesn't actually ship the item themselves, they still handle the logistics of it and that costs money.

As far as I know Midway doesn't drop ship much.

They do drop ship gun powder and special order items, and I believe some clothing like boots... but as far as I know that's about it. What else does Midway drop ship?

If it isn't going to ship directly from Midway it should display "Product ships separately from Manufacturer" under Status.

I have never ordered from Midway, although I've tried a couple of times. The first time, part of my order was backordered. They would gladly make two shipments as long as I paid shipping twice. I asked if they could wait until the backorder came in and ship it all at once. I was told they couldn't do that.

The second time, I signed up to be notified by e-mail when a certain item was back in stock. Over a year later, I get a e-mail almost every day from them, and not once have I been notified the item I want is in stock. (Their website shows it is.) I ordered from someone else and called it a day.

I ordered a holster from Midway once. Unfortunately, it arrived in a few days and cost exactly what they said it would cost. Argh!

You are correct about this. Everything I've seen that isn't shipped from Midway does have the note you circled in your picture. The point is, some people miss that little tidbit.

I have no idea what all is shipped this way, I just know that some of it is. Just another thing to watch for as you buy. Most of the big on-line companies do stuff like this. Amazon is the worst for it. Anymore it seems like only 20% of the stuff they advertise (because they don't actually sell it) ships from Amazon. The rest is from the vendor. These places are run just like your corner grocery store.

Y'all did know that the grocery store doesn't own the merchandise on the shelves, right? They just rent space to vendors.

Read a post like this while back, thought, yeah Larry is kinda diggin deep in my pocket for shipping. Next time I went to order, checked a couple of other places that were quoted as being more customer oriented and shipping friendly. Turned out that even adding Midway's outrageous shipping costs, it was still less expensive to buy from them. Recent birthday, Midway sends best wishes, and has for several years. Sometimes even have some specials just for my cake day(or so the e-mail reads, no reason to doubt it), none of the others I have dealt with do this for me, or even send the; have a happy, e-mail. I'll probably keep buying from Larry.

Besides what I mentioned earlier, what have you seen that isn't shipped from Midway?

As far as missing the little tidbit "Product ships separately from Manufacturer" I wonder who orders gun power that isn't a sticker for details? .5 grains... uh I thought it was 5 grains... :D

Like I said, I don't know. I've just seen a few things, but I don't remember what they were. Could fall into the categories you mentioned.

If you've been around guns clubs like I have, I'm sure you've seen many folks that should be sticklers about things they aren't. I talked to one reloader who said, "Scale? Why would I need a scale? The bushing only lets X amount of powder in anyway." To which I replied, "What about different powders?" He said, "Oh, they're all the same. The differences are just marketing hype."

So, yeah, I could see any number of people, regardless of what they're purchasing, miss lots of things.

Due to zoning laws I believe powder comes from one warehouse and primers from another, Some reason they can not keep them together where they are located. Reason for 2 haz mat fees if ordered together.
