Courageous Little Dog (for dog lovers only)

This photograph of Mini speaks to me on so many levels. I won't try to list the ways. I'll just say the photograph works for me, and let it go at that.

I work for an architectural/engineering firm with a staff of about 475 people. I took the picture (see post #39) shortly after I started work there in March of 2018 and posted it on the company electronic bulletin board. I could not believe how many "likes" it got (kind of like this thread!), and how the people at the company knew me from this picture. I put a caption under it that read, "Mini loves coming to work here!" She just loved sleeping in the sun. Sadly, she only had about 4 more months to live after that picture was taken.

Mini was found in Tennessee, tied to a post, pregnant and abandoned. She was transported to MN, where she had her puppies (all of which quickly found good homes). By the grace of God I found her on the local animal shelter website. I gave her the absolute best life I could.

PS Lily now wears Mini's pink collar! :-)

Dogs, particularly older dogs, like to bask in the sunlight coming in through a window. They get very contemplative at such moments, and we wonder what is going through their minds.

This is Joe, our wonderdog, who died from cancer last May at the age of 11. This picture was taken about a year before he died; he was lying on the floor in the incoming sunlight. Trying not to disturb him, I got down to his level and took this picture. I think that Joe was thinking he was glad he was there for us, and that we were there for him. I miss him with all my heart.

"Ain't but three things in this world that's worth a solitary dime,
But old dogs and children and watermelon wine."

There's something about warm sunlight that seems to instill a feeling of calmness in dogs, even on the coldest of winter days. It actually has the same effect on me. I think it was about thirty-four degrees when I made this photograph. I'm sure the sun had warmed the grass and earth, so my dogs just picked a spot on the side of a little hill to have a bit of a rest from our hike that day. If I hadn't started walking again after about twenty minutes, I have a feeling they wouldn't have moved for a good while.

Back about 25 years ago we had a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Boxer mix named Buddy. Buddy slept on the foot of our bed that faced the double window looking out into our backyard. One night around 2 or 3 AM, Buddy came off the end of the bed, flew through the air and hit the window with all his weight, nearly breaking it. He growled and barked like we had never heard, so I let him out into the backyard thinking it was an armadillo or raccoon making the nightly rounds. He came back in after a few minutes and we went back to sleep not thinking about it again.

The next morning I went outside and found both of my fence gates open. My neighbors from across the street and next door came over - one had his window broken and a laptop stolen, the other had an expensive bicycle taken. Both had just finished filing reports with the local sheriff's office.

I closed my fence gates then went back inside and cooked Buddy a nice steak.

This picture is on on the wall,
And my Shadow who I had to put down Monday morning
use to sleep like that........

I have the same picture. Looks just like my first Lab, Buster, who's been gone about thirteen years now. Sorry for your loss.
