Actually, I think the first sidekick in a western, was Edgar Buchanan. He was paired with Hopalong Cassidy. Well, at least in the TV series.
Don't forget Smiley Burnette. He came along first.![]()
Jimmyj said:Hi. Your Remington Model 1858 appears to be cut down from the original model grip and barrel?
No Jimmyj, that's how it came originally from the Uberti factory except for the added on fluted conversion cylinder. Still available that way from Uberti.
(02-23-2016 later Edit after checking Uberti's website.)
From the models on their website, it appears Uberti is no longer offering their .44 cal, 1858 Remington with the shorter barrel like mine anymore. The only ones on their website now, are 8 inch barrel ones. See this link.....1858 New Army Revolver and 1858 Target Carbine Revolver | Uberti).

Owch. Also, if you ever do a dvd? do so in region zero. Ive a couple friends in Europe who would love to get a copy. One is in St. Albans UK, and im about to send him a custom made set of grips for his Colt .45 he wants to put them on. He practices a bit of drawing and spins but admits nowhere near as good as you are.
I'd like to get my same friend who video'd my butt forward spin draw with my Pietta 1860's video, to do another one of me spinning my '73 peacemakers with my buscadero double drop leg rig. If he can find the time. If he does, I'll put it on YouTube like I did the butt forward spin draw one. Ringo, can your friend in the UK download from YouTube to burn a dvd?
.
I understand. Well in that case, if I can get Ed to do another video (not sure when), I'll burn it and my butt forward draw video onto a disk and send it to you for him Ringo. What format do they use in the UK? I know it is different from what we use in the U.S. I'm not familiar with a region zero format and thought they used a different format than that in the UK.
For those of you who do not know who's who in the Photograph.
For those of you who do not know who's who in the Photograph.
From Left to Right;
Will Hutchins as Sugerfoot, Peter Brown as Johnny McKay, Jack Kelly as Bart Maverick, Ty Hardin as Bronco Layne, James Garner as Bart Maverick, Wayde Preston as Waco Williams, John Russell as Dan Troop.
The one amazing thing is the chair back of those other Actors they didn't have sitting David Carradine he wasn't sitting there playing his Flute......David Carradine as Kwai Chang Caine. LOL "Winks"
I went to Six Gun Territory in Florida twice as a kid. Once in 1965 with my parents and once in 1966 as a young Naval academy cadet age 12 on an Academy field trip there. On that last occasion I got to meet and speak with Kirby Grant (Sky King). He even gave me one of his spent blank cartridges from the western shootout they just did. It was a fun place. Old western type town, stagecoaches, bankrobbers vs the marshal shootouts, stunt men rolling off roofs. Would give liberals a brain hemorrhage today with all the shootouts and gun play....but we loved it.
Unfortunately I didn't get any pics of me with Sky King. But I was telling one of my former high school classmates Michele Kelso Curtis about it, and she told me she went there about the same time in 1965 and got her picture taken with movie and t.v. star Jock Mahoney. Here's her pic with him.

Jock Mahoney was a movie and t.v. star. He played Tarzan, westerns and I especially remember him starring as Yancy Derringer in the old t.v. western series that ran only one year from 1958 to 1959. He was a Mississippi river boat gambler type of guy in old New Orleans that used a four barrel Sharps Derringer and dressed like a dandy. Maybe because he dressed fancy, they used the name for him of "Yancy" and of course his last name of "Derringer" was a reference to his four barreled Sharp's derringer he used. So the title "Yancy Derringer" makes one think of "Fancy with Derringer". Did they do that on purpose? I have no idea. But it makes sense if they did.

Gilbert Roland and Jane Russell were on TCM This morning! That guy was smooooooth. I made Lash LaRue a set of dentures in the late 70s. Quite a gentleman. He was living up around Hickory, N.C. at the time.Id forgotten about Gilbert Roland. He too is a favorite. BTW--just bought a two movie Wild Bill Eliott dvd set. Havent seen them yet but will start watching probaby on wednesday.
Since you like Gilbert Roland type westerns--you ought to try some of the Monogram Western sets. These usually have at least five westerns per set. Several Tim Holt and other sets are out--I only have two so far.
I only have one Wild Bill still--which is from: The Savage Horde....Shows him about to get into a gunfight.
I went there back in the day-late 50's and early 60's-I live in Ocala now, and it has been a shopping center for many years-with a gun store!! Now for a piece of trivia-what was Yancy's indian side kicks name?? Remember?
