I have been working up a deer load using the Cast Performance 180 gr. wide flat nose gas check bullet with 2400 lately. The gun is a 686-6, 6".
After calling CP for several weeks and not getting through (no load data provided), I started looking around for similar load data. I could not find any reliable data so I tailored my loads to the Hornady 180 gr. XTP. I'm up to 12 gr. of 2400 without any signs of pressure overages.
A few months go by and I call CP on a whim one day and just happen to reach a human on the other side. I ask for load data using 2400. Long story short; the guy tries to persuade me straight to Lil Gun with a range of 13 gr. - 15 gr. I say good deal, but what about 2400. He comes back a few seconds later with a max of 10.9 gr.
So here's my question: Does anyone have any experience with this bullet, this powder, this load range (12 gr.+/-), this gun, this barrel length? I'm not about to call the bluff of the bullet maker, but 1.1 grains over max with no pressure signs puzzles me. I've already started working up a load with Lil Gun, currently at 13.8 gr., but I don't want to abandon my work with 2400 if there is some promise to be had.
I only have access to an indoor range so a chronograph is not in the cards for me right now. I'd really appreciate some velocity readings if anyone has'em.
thanks
