CPAP Machine

I got a CPAP on 11/30/17 and have absolutely despised it ever since, though I use it religiously. Surely the designer of that cruel device will go to Hell when they pass. They will be sitting on a hot rock along with Hitler, the inventor of the reverse beeper mounted on heavy equipment, and whoever thought up the popcorn ceiling finish.

I have to disagree with you. I have been a user for going on 20 years now and I feel like it has saved my life. I can really get a good nights sleep since I started using it. My heart doctor has told me that many heart attack victims that have sleep apnea and don't use a cpap don't last very long.
I'm glad the cpap was invented!

I use distilled water. No scaling and very little scum. Rarely have to clean the mask and hose.
Same here. Nothing but distilled water but I try and clean everything once a month. I use the pillow style device.

I've gad mine since July of 2019, cardiologist had me do a sleep study and he highly recommended that I get one. What a difference in the way I feel when I wake up. I know that I sleep better using it.

For awhile, I used only distilled water in my CPAP. There was a period when I was traveling frequently, and didn't want to be carrying DW with me, so I started using tap water instead, and I eventually started using it at home also. For several years I have continued doing that. It doesn't seem to do any damage to the unit, aside from building up some scale in the water reservoir over time. That scaling can be limited greatly by dumping out any water remaining in the reservoir the next day, rinsing it, and then refilling it. As my wife uses a lot of citric acid in our dishwasher (I buy it in bulk, 10# at a time), I put a teaspoon or so of it in the reservoir about once a month, and add some water. In an hour or so, all of the scale is dissolved. A little Vinegar would probably work just as well.

As I earlier mentioned, every two or three weeks, I disassemble the plastic mask and put it in the dishwasher. It comes out looking like new. I also soak the elastic headpieces in hot soapy water as needed. An elastic headpiece will last me at least six months before it loses its elasticity. I generally buy a couple of elastic headpieces a year off eBay for around $7 each instead of going the prescription route. Much less hassle. I also periodically flush the hose with hot water. Hoses will last indefinitely, but I have three of them.

While I use distilled water as often as possible, it is not always practical, and the local groceries seem to have great difficulty keeping it stocked. Once a month I wash out the reservoir and fill it with water with a few drops of Clorox added and let it sit all day. The I rinse it out well and put it back into use.
