it's sad that it takes someone nearly their entire life to realize that they need to protect themselves because noone will do it for them I am 20 and I knew this from the time I was able to think for myself, that is what is causeing us to lose our rights, because so many people buy into this false sense of security B/S, yes LEO are great people, but they can only respond when YOU let them know they need to. Yes they will save your life for you IF THEY ARE THERE. We need to begin to rely on yourselves more and the government less because in the long run it's going to be our 'dear old government' that will do nothing more than oppress us and get rich off of us doing it. It was the individual that founded and defended this country and it will be the individual that keeps it safe, from ALL threats foreign (terrorist)and domestic (those who seek to end our way of life). Not all wars are violent and deadly, most are political, sneaky and if lost devastating. Thanks for listening to me rant, Just needed to blow off some steam.

Well, "20" is your entire life, but you are at the early stages, so good for you for realizing this so early! I think it took me until I was 30 to realize you have to be your own knight in shining armor.

PS - Don't "trample laws" - it will only backfire on you. Work to change them.

During my 24 years as a cop I can recall only a very few times that we actually interdicted a crime in progress; the most common scenario was responding to a crime scene minutes or hours later.

One in 17 Colorado residents is the victim of a serious crime (UCR Part I Crimes) every year. About one in 15 Colorado residents ages 15 to 50 is on probation or parole at any given time. And Colorado is nowhere near the top of these categories!

In short, no matter how cautiously one leads his life, no matter how hard a person works to avoid trouble or confrontations, there is a significant likelihood that any of us will be faced with the need to defend ourselves (or others). When it happens, we will almost always have to deal with it without assistance from the cops or anyone else.

I carry a handgun, not because I look forward to being in a fight, but because it is better to be armed if needed than to be unarmed.

I carry car insurance, too, but I don't go out looking for an opportunity to be in a crash.

I carry homeowners insurance also, but not because I want my house to burn down.

I prefer to think of this as "enlightened self-interest".

Thanks for your replies, I guess I was getting at how people are giving up rights for a false sense of security, I learned after 9/11 that the government is capable of wiping themselves and thats about it, and thats not worth my rights to me
