Yep..the hotel "needs" a copy of yer DL and a credit card. Just so they can actually tell who you are. The last one told me the state makes 'em do it...yeh, right! Actually you can pay with cash when you check out of the hotel at least in many places. Just not when checking in. Used to be able to buy an airline ticket for cash too. Never have ridden a train. Can you purchase a train ticket with out a CC. My personal opinion is it is kinda wrong to use a credit history for all the previously stated uses. I actually know a few people who do not have any CCs. My daughter and her husband are in that group. They bought a small farm back east 4 years ago and couldn't get a mortgage without jumping through the hoops...so they rented with the right to purchase...which they did paying the owner a reasonable 4% interest rate. But I guess they still don't have a credit history. At the end of this year they will pretty much be debt free. I think it can be inconvenient to not have credit histories at times
