Crimson Trace Grips for J-Frame

Who has the best price on these grips for a J-frame? Also, anyone have a recommendation on which model? I'm leaning towards the LG-305.

I bought a 405 on ebay earlier this year for $212 (delivered) and got the $50 CT rebate on top. Wonderful tool and very compact but too uncomfortable for me to shoot enough to be good with it, so I am going to replace it with a 305. I'll figure out a way to hide the (slight) extra bulk for what feels (on the gun store demonstrator) like a fatter grip that should absorb more recoil. They're still available on ebay for $212, BTW.

I have an LG 305 on my 640-1 and like it. It's the largest model CT makes and if you have big hands don't get one any smaller. I have big hands and I wish it were a little bigger. No problems with concealment, however. And FWIW, when cleaning they recommend removing the grips. I cover the laser with a piece of 3M (blue) masking tape, easy to remove and good protection.

hurry from what I am seeing CT is shutting down the retailers who offer great prices .
Have a 305 shoot 357's out of my model 60
totaly managable great grip.

They usually only have one "deal" a year. Last year was the free batteries for life.

I like the LG-405. I have a set on my 642-1. They cushion the backstrap and tame felt recoil.

Here is a side by side comparison of the LG-305 & 405 on a couple of J-Frames.

If it was a straight up decision based on shooting comfort, for me at least, I would choose the larger 305's. Because most of our carry J-Frames are used in a deep concealment / back up role, i.e. ankle or pocket carry, they have the smaller 405's on them. The 305 is primarily used on our "house guns."

My wife loves the extended 306 model but cheapest I've seen is Ebay. Only problem is that the more we study this point and shoot, like todays drills, I'm wondering if laser grips are more about fun toy. I'm actually shooting better without sighting at all. Just aiming with the so called "pump handle". In fact it's a pretty huge epiphany (spelling?). Good luck with it though.

A person, well trained in point shooting, can do just a well without a laser grip at close range. It's a lot of fun and is an excellent skill to have.

The big advantage of a laser on a J frame is that it extends the useful range of the gun out much farther than just using the iron sights.

we do an indoor action pistol and one of the requirments to shoot in the league is every gun that you use must have a laser.
Many of the new shooters have slower times with the laser than with open sights untill they get used to using a laser .

Pratice is needed,but when the shaking and other faults the laser shows are over come. they become a better shooter, with open sights also.

Also that window of low light at dusk that night sights don't work (XS big dot being the exception for me) the laser does.

Yes it does cover the beam but that's not a bad thing. You can use your trigger finger to cover the beam until you're ready to use it. A good technique to prevent disclosing your position.

Not a stupid question at all gasaman. For some the answer is yes, their finger is held over the light aperture hole when not on the trigger, my wife is one of those people.

This can work to her advantage since it will help conceal her position until she's ready to actually fire, which is when the laser would be needed anyway.

I taught myself to be able to shoot without depressing the activation button on the Crimson Trace Grips but if I had the type where the laser was always on after you hit the on switch then I would hold my finger over the aperture until ready to fire, much like my wife does......

LB, as you know I'm also a proponent of Point Shooting and where a Laser sight really shines, pun intended, is when the shooting situation goes "dynamic." I trained extensively for a while at night and thought I was good enough to use my handgun to deal with critters around here. It was then that I found out that my training really only made me good at shooting static targets.

Once I got into situations where both myself & my target were moving things changed dramatically, especially in the dark. The Crimson Trace leveled the playing field and based on that experience almost all of our carry guns now have CT Grips on them.

If your target will just be standing there, even in the dark, then laser grips probably wouldn't be much help for some people. On the other hand, if there's a chance that you will be running for cover, or just trying to get out of the way, while trying to get a shot off at a target that might be shooting back and also moving then I think many would find a laser to be a helpful tool.........

Last night I went to the link that "buskerpcr" gave me and ordered the LG-405 for my 640. Should be here in a couple of days. It was a good price and if they actually deliver, I'll have a new toy to play with. You can never have enough toys, especially now that the weather here in SW PA has turned from summer to winter in two easy days! Thanks again!

We've got the CT lasers on 4 CCW pistols, an M&P9c, 442 and two PM9 Kahrs.

The 442 has a 405 on it, I only wish I had been able to try "pocketing" before buying on the 442. However the 405 does work well (limited grip purchase) but, the draw from the pocket is very good. Better then the Kahr PM9, but once out of the pocket the Kahr excels.

The best thing about Lasers in my opinion is that one does not need to focus on sights, but on the target instead.

The only reason I don't have them on 3 other CCW pistols, 2-1911's and a 4" 629 is the cost and "grip" factor. When/if cash becomes available I will look into it.

For many years I thought they were just a gimmick, all my CCW's have night sights, (except the 629) and many years ago I thought they were gimmicks.

After using one for over two years now, the 442 was the first, I'm now sold on the Laser.
