Crimson Trace Laser grips

Crimson Trace

I have them on my 66, 642, and Glock 32. The 66 has Crimson Trace Hog hunters on it. In bright sunlight- worthless. In low light, indoors and at night the fastest way to get on target. They are great on a HD gun and will help you be a better shooter. You get instant feedback, on trigger control, with a laser (just try to hold it steady as you pull the trigger). Buy the the Hog hunters, you will like them.
586 and 66 have the same size grips.

I have them on my 686+, 637 and 9mm Browning Hi Power. As fisco points out they aren't much use in the noonday sun for busting bowling pins at fifty yards -- but that's where iron sights shine. My sole reason for having handguns at my advanced age is HD/SD, so I practice weekly at five yards. That's where Crimson Trace grips shine. Activation/deactivation is instinctive, which is not true of any other laser sight that I know of. Sighting in is easy and zero is stable. And in all three cases the Crimson Trace grips -- simply as grips! -- are an improvement over what came with the weapon. I would not buy a handgun that Crimson Trace did not make a grip for. I'm that sold.

I have them on my STI Escort, 1975 Colt Government Combat Model and my 4" 586 no dash. One of these is next to the bed and loaded. I got them to save time and not have to find my glasses in the middle of the night. I practice regularly using the laser and the iron sights, with and without my prescription variable bifocals. Beyond 15 yards in sunlight there is no advantage to the laser, but otherwise I think they help. They certainly will help you with trigger control when practicing.

Lasers have gone from gimmick, to viable combat sighting options. Worthwhile investment.

CT sights

What does a set of 405 cost and where is the best place to buy for 340? Another thing, can the stock front sight be replaced on the 340 very easy. RPW

On the LG405 grips (which is the set I recommend for J-frames), check E-Bay. Don't jump in. Watch the action first.

As for your question on the front sight of a 340, dunno.

I have a set of Crimson Trace grips on my Kimber TLE II, 1911. This is my Home defense gun and it makes target aquisition very fast. I am currently looking at a set for my S&W 60-15. I have looked at other laser sights and Crimson trace seem to be the best solution for the money.

I have a set of 306 on my 64-6 and a set on my LCR. In lieu of a shotgun probably one of the best home defense solutions I can think off. Unlike most other laser grips the CTC are intuitive and don't require another step to remember when you really need them.

I have quite a few guns equipped with Crimson Trace.

I think even in bright daylight they work for my eyes. I find it hard to see the front site and the rear is of course worse. I can see everything well from 15 feet to infinity. When I compete I use glasses that focus right on the front sight but then the target is tough. When I go about daily life I use the variable progressive lenses, but when shooting it takes a long time to find the sights.

With the Crimson Trace I can focus on the target look down the barrel, the sights are there but pretty fuzzy but the dot is right where the round is going. I can see the dot on the brightest days to 15 or 20 yards. If I got in trouble beyond that range I guess I have a bit more time to find the sweet spot in my glasses and will use the iron sights.

I recommend them to all my students and friends. My wife and daughter have them on their guns too.

Better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them.

I wish they made a more compact grip for the N frame, I had to cut down the Hog Hunter on my 629 for carry. I would buy 3 more if they would.

I agree with some of the other opinions, about just another tool in the box, don't depend on just them etc… but I also think you should practice with them in daylight doing lots of target transitions and weak hand, strong hand shooting. I like to keep fiber optics on my 629 also, if it is too bright out to see the dot, the fibers ought to be jumping right out at ya.

I have them on my 649 and love them. The 649 does double duty as CC and HD. In both applications the CT's work very well, the red dot will probably discourage all but the most hard core psycho's. Perhaps this will eliminate the need to drop the hammer and if not I know for sure where that round is going. The only reason I can think of for not having them is they are pricey, $269 for the 649. YMMV (o;

eBay is a good place to start your quest for LG405's. The front-sight of a 340, be it M&P340 or the 340PD, is pinned. It is easily popped out and a new sight put in. My local 'smith had it removed, new one in, trimmed and pinned in around 15-minutes. Luckily, all it took was a few swipes with a file to get it to seat properly.

The Meprolights seem to have softer metal than the XS-Sight Big-Dots, so they are easier to drill through. Good luck......
